The chassis is made from a laminated, anti-

vibration material called Sontech. (This material

is used extensively in high-performance cars,

where the benefits of vibration dampening lead

to a quieter, smoother ride.) The sophisticated

power supply is supplemented by an additional

toroidal power transformer which supplies the

audio output circuitry. This combination further

to a new video and audio connection called hdmi, which stands for High

A completely modular design, with 7 identical and

fully isolated power amplifiers, these may be daisy

chained for bi-amping or tri-amping suitable

loudspeakers. Each amplifier module has its own

bridge rectifiers and 20,000 microfarads of storage

capacitance, fed from a total of 14 individual

windings on the p7s two massive 1500va toroidal

power transformers. This arrangement ensures near

perfect isolation between the channels for the

avoidance of hum loops. It also means that each

channel can always deliver its full rated continuous

output power of 150 Watts into 8 ohms or 230

Watts into 4 ohms, irrespective of what the other

channels are doing.

The advanced current feedback circuit topology

used in the p7 is a further development of that used

The p7 Multichannel Power Amplifier will deliver equally breathtaking results

from both music and home cinema sources. It will enthrall even the most

experienced and discerning listener.

As the p7 amplifier is capable of delivering over 1.6 kilowatts of

continuous undistorted audio power, there were a number of

engineering challenges that have had to be overcome to ensure

both short and long-term reliable operation. Each channel uses

four Sanken heavy duty bipolar output transistors firmly bolted

to a large custom designed aluminium heatsink.

These heatsinks are thermally very efficient so that, under normal

conditions, the amplifier needs only convection cooling and is

thus silent in use. With so much power on tap the p7 is equipped

with a heavy duty mains cable and socket, coupled

to a microprocessor controlled softstart sequencer which, to

minimise mains inrush currents, turns on the channels one by

one. This system is powered from its own small toroidal power

transformer, permitting the p7 to be remotely switched in and out

of standby via a 12-volt trigger input.

The microprocessor continuously monitors the condition of each

channel, including temperature, output current and dc offset,

to ensure correct operation or instant shut-down under fault

conditions. It also controls a variable-speed cooling fan, for those

rare occasions when convection cooling is not enough.

The p7 features a beautifully contoured front panel and integral

air intake slot, with 7 multicoloured LEDs to show the operating

status of each channel. The whole case is made of heavy gauge

aluminium, which helps the overall sound quality due to its

excellent thermal and non-magnetic properties. Because it

weighs over 30 kg, even the p7s feet are made from machined

aluminium, complete with easy slide plastic inserts to help

with installation.

aluminium extrusion which is connected to a

laminated chassis incorporating a large Acousteel

plate consisting of two layers of steel of different

thickness with an elastic damping layer in

between. This quality of construction ensures low

levels of microphony that can mask important

aid grip and control and is a key part to the

The software control allows the user to alter the

input trims so that you can switch inputs without

radio interference: the av9 is a digital audio device which has

been designed to very high standards of electromagnetic

compatibility. the unit can radiate rf (radio frequency) energy.

in some cases this can cause interference with fm and am

radio reception. if this is the case, keep the av9 processor and its

connecting cables as far from the tuner and its aerials as
