The Aranzada Winery.

The Aranzada winery is situated in the

town of Alhama de Granada, a municipality

at an altitude of 895 metres in the south

west of the Granada region. Alhama de

Granada, 60km inland from the Costa del

Sol, is a zone of extensive plains to the

North and a large mountainous region to

the South.

This region has a long tradition of vine cultivation and wine production and is

currently gaining prominence within the Granada wine market.

Alhama de Granada is known for its quality grape juice which is produced from

the zone’s infamous traditional method of grape pressing. Over some time

there had been attempts to form a cooperative among Alhamenian wine

producers which could market wines under a D.O (Denominación de origen).

Finally at the beginning of 2004 a number of founding associates, who for a

while had worked together to make improvements in local grape production by

introducing new methods of cultivation and labour, established the Aranzada

winery.

The Aranzada winery guarantees the quality of its production through its

careful selection of the best grapes. It has developed a clear proposition in local

agricultural production that values the use of natural resources in the

cultivation of crops. Aranzada has responded to changes in the consumption

habits of the population, increased demands in the market for sustainable

development and stands out amongst the strong competition.

The Aranzada winery pays particular attention to two fundamental aspects

which ensures it produces excellent grape juice:

• it uses the best technology in the production process to focus on every detail

that ultimately influences the process of cultivation, production and aging.

• it makes careful selection of its crop only choosing grapes of the very best

quality.

The Aranzada vineyards, situated in Alhama de Granada, are grown on slate

soil, situated at a high altitude (between 900 and 1,100 metres) and influenced

by the Mediterranean sea breeze, that softens the temperatures. The

combination of these factors creates a microclimate which favours the

cultivation of the vines producing a natural product of the highest quality. The

altitude prevents the fruit ripening too quickly which enables it to reach its full

form. These conditions give the yield considerable advantage over the wines of

other zones. Our experts further control the ripening process to prevent any

distortion of the final product.

This product enters the market with an exceptional quality, due to the terroir:

the special characteristics of the soil and the climate in this zone, which leaves

its imprint on each drop of these wines which are of incomparable aroma and

palette. The winery produces white wines, crianzas and sweet reds. A variety

of grapes are used in the production of the reds: Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah,

Tempranillo, Merlot and Rome. The Rome grape is one of the few local varieties

from Andalucia, only cultivated in the Axarquia of Malaga and Alhama de

Granada regions. The white wines are produced using Chardonnay, Sauvignon

Blanc, Palomino and Pedro Ximenez grapes.
