If you love dancing and music, you’ll love going to

ballet class.

You’ll be able to dress up as a dancer, make

friends and learn how to do some of the beautiful

movements you’ve seen dancers do. Angelina is

doing an arabesque.

Ballet is just the best thing ever!

Little girl ballet dancers

usually wear:

A stretchy leotard

Pinktightsorsocks

Balletshoes

A floaty skirt

Boy ballet dancers usually wear:

A white singlet or leotard

Blackorbluetights

White ballet shoes

Your hair needs to be neat and tidy

so you can dance freely.

That’s why ballerinas always wear

their hair in a ballet bun. Angelina

wears a pink bow in hers.

For performances, ballet dancers

wear special outfits called costumes.

You might wear a costume called a

tutu one day.

What do you wear to your ballet class?

your teacher called?

On Angelina’s first day at the

Camembert Academy, she met lots

of other young dancers. Soon she

didn’t feel shy at all!

You’ll get to know the others in your

class too. You’ll practise together and

perform on stage together.

It’s fun to dance with your friends. Each

one of you is special and together you

can make a dance magical.

Angelina’s ballet teacher is called

Ms Mimi.

Your teacher will be so pleased to

see you at dancing. Even if the

ballet steps seem a bit tricky, your

teacher will help you get them right.

Angelina always listens carefully to

her teacher to find out what to do.

room called a dance studio. The

studio is a very special place, just

for dancing. You might see things to

help you dance, like a long wooden

barre or big mirrors.

It’s very important to wait for your

teacher to tell you to enter the studio

or use the barre, even if you can’t

wait to start dancing!

Did you know that ballet dancers

never speak on stage?

That’s because in ballet you can

express yourself through your

movements and your expressions,

rather than your voice.

Your teacher might help you to

practise your expressions. She may

ask you to make a happy, sad or

even angry face.

Can you make a

surprised expression

like Angelina?

If you work hard, your class might put

on a performance.

It’s so amazing to dance on a real

stage! You’ll wear a dance costume,

and maybe even some make-

up so the audience can see your

expressions.

You’ll need to practise your routine

until it’s perfect.

After you do a performance, write

down the important details here, to

remember them always.

My Performance

It’s

Showtime!

To be a ballerina, always remember

Accept applause with a curtsey or bow.

Say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’.

Cheer for others when they dance well.

Listen to your teacher.

Sparkle when you dance, by smiling!

Listen to the music and let it move you.

Beontime!

dancing for tomorrow – do it now!

To help you achieve your ballet dreams, your teacher mightgiveyouspecialAngelinaBallerinastickers.

These might be for great dancing or beautiful behaviour in class.

Collect your stickers here.

A reverence is the special

ballet term for curtsey or bow.

When you make a reverence at

the end of your class, you are

thanking your teacher.

When you curtsey or bow on

stage you are accepting the

applause from the audience.

Your teacher will show you

how to finish with a lovely

curtsey or bow.
