Aquaculture Strategic Development Program
Program Objective
The Aquaculture Strategic Development Programwill support growth in the provincial aquacultureindustry by providing funding to strategic areas.These may include diversifying production;maintaining competitiveness; increasing capacity inthe supply and service sector; improving productquality and enhancing sustainability. These strategicinitiatives will help ensure that the aquacultureindustry continues to be a major economiccontributor to the provincial economy.
Program Overview
The Program will support industry-led projects thatassist individual companies while alsodemonstrating sector-wide benefits.
Proposals will only be accepted for the threecommercial species; Atlantic salmon, Steelheadtrout, Blue mussels and the development species,Atlantic cod.
Funding Levels
The maximum contribution for any one project will
not normally exceed $100,000.
Level of contribution may vary by projectdepending on factors such as level of risk to theapplicant, potential for industry-wide applicationand applicants contribution. It will not normallyexceed a maximum of 60% of eligible expenses.
Proprietary Rights
The focus of the Program is to enhance thecompetitiveness of the aquaculture industry. Thus,
information resulting from all projects will beavailable publicly to support further developmentalefforts. Projects which may contain confidentialcorporate information will be consideredproprietary for a period of one year from projectcompletion.
Eligibility Requirements
The following proponents will be eligible forassistance under the Program:
Commercially-licensed Newfoundland andLabrador aquaculture companies.
Aquaculture supply and Service sectorcompanies;
Industry organizations and corporate entitiesinvolved in aquaculture in Newfoundlandand Labrador.
Eligible activities will include only those carried outin Newfoundland and Labrador and may include:
Developing hatchery capacity Improving product quality Promoting sustainable development Developing new growing areas Developing innovative technologies Improving industry safety
Project activities not eligible for funding include:
Working capital Standard aquaculture equipment/technology Maintenance and repairs Expansion to primary processing capacity Buildings and works
Evaluation CriteriaThe project evaluation criteria include (but will notbe limited to):
Economic Impact Sustainability Competitive Impacts Commercial Potential Compliance with Act and Regulations Level of contribution requested Financial standing of applicants and related
companies, associates, or entities with the
Government of Newfoundland and Labrador
