The course ran over a period of three years in which I was lucky enough to find work experience in a local garage in Huddersfield for a year. “This was the most valuable placement I was ever to experience and led me to university and to change my life. The working conditions were poor and even though I enjoyed maintaining vehicles I still didn't have any responsibilities or face any real challenges. “The beginning of my first year at university was difficult, as there was a lot of course work and maths involved but I stuck to it and started to enjoy my lectures after a while. I was designing landing gears for airplanes, seeing material in different ways and using weird and wonderful software. “Within my first year I achieved two As, two Bs and two Cs, which was shocking because I wasn't confident in myself, but my tutors told me that hard work never goes unpaid. “After passing my second year I received a placement at Cummins as a quality engineer, which was very exciting. I am working within a team of three and am involved in the production of Turbos and other various projects. “If I was to go back and do something different ....I WOULDN'T CHANGE A THING. “The knowledge, skills and, most importantly, respect that I have gained over the years is invaluable. I have met wonderful people and teachers who have changed my life and made my family proud of me.”
