Background
The drawbacks of currently applied AP indicators:
• low robustness (are subjected to peak values fluctuations)
• not harmonised with national AQ reporting• influenced by great differences in the number of
stations in a individual country
![Page 3: AQ Indicators Based on Ambient Air Directiv es National Reporting](https://reader036.vdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062518/56814368550346895dafe440/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)
Ambient Air Directives: Legal Base for AQ Indicator Reporting
FWD and DDs:• Define the common strategy and basic principles for air quality
assessment and management• Specify common methods and criteria for the ambient air quality
assessment• Require to apply these methods for the whole territory of a member
state and to classify regions (zones) according to the adopted common air quality levels set by the DD
=>
• The member states must identify the area of their territory on which the limit values (and limit values plus margin of tolerance) are exceeded
• By analogy, they are able to determine a portion of the population exposed to limit values exceedances
![Page 4: AQ Indicators Based on Ambient Air Directiv es National Reporting](https://reader036.vdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062518/56814368550346895dafe440/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
AQ indicators :
AQIhealth
~ % of population within zones (areas) where limit values (and LV +MT) for protection of health are exceeded
AQIecosystems
~ % of territory (zones) where limit values for protection of ecosystems and vegetation are exceeded
This indicators do not represent any additional burden on a national level

Example of assessment based on Ambient AQ DirectivesAim of preliminary assessment is to identify the areas of mandatory measurements and areas in which the limit values, or limit values including the margins of tolerance, are exceeded. The Directive explicitly requires such classification for the whole territory of a country More details: www.chmi.cz
