The APWA Board of Directors sent our Chapter a letter thanking us for increasing APWA membership and congratulating us on a substantial increase! The letter stated “The Nevada Chapter showed a net increase of 39 members (7.08%) and was one of 35 chapters that achieved an increase for this past fiscal year. Nevada’s increase was the third most of any chapter. Congratulations.”

PROMOTING APWA TO THE YOUNG & EVEN YOUNGER
5th Grade Field Trip to NDOT Materials Lab
The Northern Branch has put in extra effort this year promoting APWA to
potential YP members (members under age 35) and to elementary age
students. Each month, members of all ages are invited to network with industry
peers at Thirsty Thursdays (Third Thursday of the month). Be sure to “LIKE” the
APWA Nevada Facebook page for the monthly date, time and location.

In February, volunteers from the Northern Branch hosted a 5th grade field trip
to the NDOT materials lab during Engineers’ Week. Two classes of 5th graders
from Glenn Duncan Elementary School in Reno, NV participated in the lab
tour and went away knowing more about public works, potential careers and
how public works affects our community!
The Southern Branch has also had several successful YP events this year! Did
you join in the fun for the Las Vegas Lights soccer game in June? Over 50
members, half YPs, were in attendance! Earlier this year, Southern Nevada YPs
visited the Vegas Golden Knight’s Practice Facility. Be sure to visit
http://nevada.apwa.net/PageDetails/14245 to check out upcoming events
and to view previous event photos. -Lauren Warren, CTS

Just when you thought Spring Conference couldn’t get any better…along came Spring
Conference 2018. From the cutting-edge program of speakers to the program design, the
poolside BBQ to the 3rd Intake Underground Tour, the return of Grant Korgan to the new
Utilities Panel, the added Training Track to amazing sponsors, the interactive vendor booths
and drawings to the annual POTY Awards, the casual/sporty dress banquet to the committee
caricatures, the three days of networking finished up with a beautiful day on the golf course.
Really, does it get any better than that? A special thanks to Jimmy Floyd, with Clark County
Public Works, and his entire committee for this amazing conference! –Lauren Warren, CTS
