Spring Season Kicks Off! April 9th marked the first spring season practice of 2013. Although the weather has been gloomy, we are thrilled to get the spring season started and the team is ready to go! Everyone has been working hard in the weight room, on the track, and in the classroom already this semester. Translating that hard work on the field begins as we perfect our technical and tactical game in preparation for a breakout season in 2013! Oberlin field hockey will conclude our spring season in May with two scrimmages: one against Oberlin’s alumna at home and one against the Cowtown Crazees, an adult team based in Columbus, Ohio at Ohio State University. If you are in the area, we hope you will stop by to either play or cheer!

OCFH Celebrates Inaugural Junior Clinics!
The Oberlin College Field Hockey program hosted two junior clinics in early March. Twelve recruits and their families capitalized on the opportunity to learn about Oberlin College, meet the team, coaching staff, and play! The weekend kicked off with admissions events on Friday, which included campus tours, information sessions for parents and students, and class visits. Extra events such as tours of the Art Museum, Science Center, and Conservatory wrapped up the afternoon. Many families were impressed with Oberlin’s world-‐renowned Conservatory and Jazz
buildings, along with the resources offered to the students, especially when compared to like-‐institutions. Saturday was filled with field hockey events including a clinic, tours of the Athletics building, and photos of our new
turf field (arriving in 2014). We had a great time hosting all of our recruits and their families, and look forward to seeing them again soon… hopefully in Crimson and Gold!

Oberlin started with a bang against Wooster in the conference championship game when first-‐year Lela Hull scored
three minutes into the game. Senior co-‐captain, Rosemary Mudry, secured the Oberlin win with a pair of goals off penalty shots in both halves and was later named tournament MVP. The Yeowomen received Oberlin’s first NCAC Championship Trophy!
A ferocious defense coming up with two key defensive saves by Barrer and Krykostas and a relentless attack producing a blazing shot in the 13th minute by senior Christina Castilla was all Oberlin needed to knock off Lebanon Valley. During the NCAC Tournament and NCAA Tournament, sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Malinowski capped 39 saves against just 6 goals. “Whenever our season ends we will not be sad because of the progress we’ve made and how far we’ve come,” Malinowski said. “It feels great to make history.”

“Those who stay, will be Champions” – Bo Schembechler And they were! Oberlin College field hockey made history after defeating The College of Wooster 3-‐0 on November 5, 2005 to win NCAC Championship. Oberlin then made its first-‐ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament the following week; grinding out a 1-‐0 victory against #12 Lebanon Valley College, the Yeowomen advanced to the second round to face #1 Salisbury. The Sea Gulls ended the Yeowomen’s historic season, beating Oberlin 4-‐0.
