nervousness when walking in front of the huge crowd, and finally a feeling of pride as you celebrate your golden moment with friends and family. During the assembly, those students who take part in different activities have their accomplishments rec-ognized. For added entertainment value, there are performances for students to see, like the band playing "Titanic" or the French play “L’abre Ungali” about an African tree.
I hope everyone enjoyed this year’s 2nd term awards assembly, even if you didn’t gain an award. Always remember to set your goals high and don’t stop until you get there, because you never know, you might just get your own golden moment.

Pavani PP7 Getting what you want is awesome! Whether it’s a gift or prize, it definitely brings a smile. But rewards don’t just come to you. You have to set goals to achieve them which can be difficult. Just ask our award recipients. These students are consistently focused on achieving academic success. Getting the award is an added benefit! Life at Morning Star is not just about the awards, but also the
various performances, clubs, sports teams, chances to go on trips, take part in activities and competitions. We have numer-ous opportunities here for eve-ryone to be successful. What-ever award you get at the as-sembly, the feelings behind them are the same: a sense of accomplishment when you have reached your goal, then
Peel public schools will host hundreds of
special activities and events to celebrate
Education Week 2010. To give schools
plenty of time to hold activities, this cele-
bration of education will be held for two
weeks from April 19 to 30. The theme
for this year's focus on education is
Smile together "As we celebrate our 40th year of service
to our Peel community, we remain commit-
ted to building a legacy of caring and
smiling together," says Tony Pontes,
Director of Education. "We're in-
spired by what has endured and stood
the test of time—our relationships with
the community, parents, staff and stu-
dents."
In addition to inviting parents and com-
munity residents to visit their class-
rooms during the week, Peel schools
are hosting open houses, plays/
musicals, storytelling, environmental
activities, awards assemblies,
talent shows and much more.
More than 900 individuals will also be
honoured during Education Week
with Awards of Distinction for their
contributions to their school or work-
place.

As you're standing at the bottom of the stairs, you spot your friend at the top. It seems so simple just to climb up the stairs, so you start one step at a time. But, as soon as you make it to the third step, you feel a sudden ache in your lower back and around your thighs. You stop, and your friend wonders why. You reply, “ I had fitness last block,” and she suddenly gets the clear picture. Fitness is back. During the month of March, students have been exercising, running, giving all the energy they have in passing the fitness test. For the first few days, students exercised according to the fitness circuit. The circuit included the following sections: bench dips, push ups, crunches, planks, skipping, wall jumps, squats, knee ups; these exercises seen easy to say but are really hard to do. As parents always say, “You're kids! This stuff should be easy for you because you're always run-ning around.” they don't understand that running and doing exercises are completely different things. In run-ning, the main muscle groups used are the leg muscles. To do the exercises, you have to use certain muscles that have never been used before. I mean, who does this stuff? Bench dips, crunches, squats? As far as I know, all kids do is sit around in class all day and run around. So, the toughest parts about the test were the exercises. As for the 16- 20 minutes run, it was easier then ever. Remember, as they always say “No Pain; No Gain!”

Munchkins, Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man, Cowardly Lion, and the Witch. You must know the characters from the Wizard of Oz. For the first time ever, Morning Star productions pre-sents the play, “The Wizard of Oz”. Dorothy wanted to see what was at the end of the rainbow but landed in another world. Following the yel-low brick road, she meets lots of people on the way to the Wizard. Tin Man went with Doro-thy because he wanted a heart in his metal body. Lion went with Dorothy because he wanted courage. The scarecrow went with Doro-thy because he wanted a brain. So as you can see every one wanted something from the wiz-ard. Just imagine how it would feel if everyone wanted something from you? I would be really stressed out and tired. Do you think they will make it to the wizard, or not? Just imagine...a car...a car that won't
pollute; could stop global warming;
is just as good as a gas powered car;
and won’t cost a lot of money. This
special car must be a super car. No,
it is an electric car! We sixth graders
had a chance to build our electric
cars! It was fun and a real learn-
ing experience. After we were
done making the cars, we had an
opportunity to decorate them!
Some people, like myself, col-
oured their cars, added tiny toys
and extra accessories on them.
My favourite addition was when
some people placed flashing
lights on their cars! Then came
the best part - The Competi-
tions! We raced against each
other to see whose electric car
was the fastest! When we
started the races, the cars rode
in all sorts of directions. Some

The environment club is creating a battery campaign which is being supervised by Mr. Pryce. Batteries contain toxic waste that is leaking into our drinking water. If we don't recycle the batteries, we will be drinking wa-ter with lead, mercury and other toxins. Our goal is to rescue at least 500 batteries from land-fills and garbage dumps. Mr. Pryce will take all the dead batteries to a proper place to be recy-cled. This will start at the end of March. So, since we don't want to be drinking chemicals, come support the environment club by bringing dead batteries to school.
