GEORGIA O’KEEFFE: AN ARTIST’S JOURNEY, FROM GHOST RANCH TO ABIQUIUToday the spectacular landscape near Santa Fe is often called “Georgia O’Keeffe country.” From 1949 to her death in 1986, the celebrated American artist lived and worked in this area; alternating between two houses, one at Ghost Ranch and the other in Abiquiu. Here, surrounded by the terrain she loved, O’Keeffe created some of her most famous paintings of the red hills, spacious

mountains, and rugged canyons she knew so well. TREEMONISHA OPERA DISCUSSION Known almost exclusively as the King of Ragtime, Scott Joplin was an extremely good musician who composed this first thoroughly American opera published on May 19, 2011. Only in the last 10 years has it made its way into the “repertoire” of operas performed in the U.S. Miriam Miller, President of Opera NOVA, will talk about plans underway to have the opera condensed for area school children and thus bring to this composition the fame and honor it deserves. 55+ Biking GroupSpring is one of the best times to bike ride and the 55+ Biking group will be offering lots of opportunities for you to join them on rides including their annual Cherry Blossoms Ride.

Capital Bikeshare Ride-Thurs., Mar. 20, 1pm Walter Reed, 703-228-0555The 55+ Biking Group is sponsoring a session on how to use Capital Bikeshare. Capital Bikeshare puts over 1800+ bicycles across Arlington, Alexandria, and D.C. at your fingertips. We want to familiarize you with those red bikes and bike stations that are located throughout Arlington. Learn how the bikes are easy, inexpensive and safe to use. Our goal for the class is a short, round-trip bike ride. Please bring your own bike helmet for this ride, for we will have only a few to loan out and Bikeshare does not provide helmets. WEIGHT ROOM WORKOUTS WITH A FITNESS COACHCertified fitness professionals staff the weight rooms at Langston-Brown and Madison during senior adult hours to demonstrate how to use exercise machines and assist as you work at your own pace. Refund Policy for Fee-based ClassesThe Office of Senior Adult Programs adheres to Arlington Department of Parks and Recreation policies. Refunds must be requested through the DPR Registration Office at 703-228-4747.

Full refunds for OSAP classes will be made automatically when classes are canceled by OSAP due to insufficient enrollment or other unforeseen reasons, or upon request when schedule or location changes made by OSAP prohibit or limit your attendance. Refunds for medical reasons must be accompanied by a physician’s note and shall be considered on a case by case basis.

Customers who request a refund prior to the start of the second class for any reason other than those stated above will receive a full refund within 30 days of request minus a $20 service charge. Credit card charges will be refunded directly to the credit card. No refunds or credits will be given after the second class has started, or if a customer is unable to attend a one-session class or workshop. No refunds are given for fees less than $20.

CHAIR YOGASenior adults, adults recovering from injury or surgery, and adults with physical disabilities will increase energy, flexibility, and sense of well being in this class. It addresses all major muscle groups and joints, and adapts classic yoga poses in a safe and accessible manner. All work may be done seated, with the option of using the chair as a balance point for standing poses. MAH JONGGWe offer recreational games of Mah Jongg in both American and Chinese styles. American games complete the prescribed sets of hands as published yearly by the National Mah Jongg League. The Chinese style follows ancient rules that allow more flexibility of combinations of tiles. Both styles depend on strategy and calculation and are surprisingly addictive. American style is typically played at Aurora Hills, Culpepper and Walter Reed and the Chinese style at Langston-Brown. Instruction is available at the centers.
