April 9, 2017 Dear brothers and sisters, Throughout the lengthy narrative of the Gospel in which Jesus faces his enemies and those that will deny him, at each moment of adversity, the Lord brings them repentance and peace: there is the healing of the servant’s ear which was injured, there is repentance of Peter after his denial, there is the friendship of Pilate and Herod after Jesus appears before them, paradise granted of the repentant thief, the pleading of mercy for those who were persecuting the Lord, and there is the confession of the soldier of Jesus’ innocence. Even on the way to the Cross, Jesus brings the purpose of the Cross: to reconcile us to one another and to God. With our sins forgiven by the suffering of Jesus, we are encouraged to forgive one another. By the Cross, we are reconciled before God; it is truly the instrument of our salvation and a wonderful love story, a story that is not to be forgotten but lived out day by day. We see the drama unfold as we read the narrative and are invited to become part of the story, to love, to forgive, and to heal one another. And, that is why the Church venerates the Cross of Christ. It is the sacred instrument of our salvation. Let us pray, “O Jesus, my God, make me realize from now on that it is I who made you bleed, yet remember me when you come into your kingdom.” Amen. Dear brothers and sisters,

Throughout the lengthy narrative

of the Gospel in which Jesus faces his

enemies and those that will deny him,

at each moment of adversity, the Lord

brings them repentance and peace:

there is the healing of the servant’s ear

which was injured, there is repentance

of Peter after his denial, there is the

friendship of Pilate and Herod after

Jesus appears before them, paradise

granted of the repentant thief, the

pleading of mercy for those who were

persecuting the Lord, and there is the

confession of the soldier of Jesus’

innocence. Even on the way to the

Cross, Jesus brings the purpose of the

Cross: to reconcile us to one another

and to God. With our sins forgiven by

the suffering of Jesus, we are

encouraged to forgive one another. By

the Cross, we are reconciled before

God; it is truly the instrument of our

salvation and a wonderful love story, a

story that is not to be forgotten but

lived out day by day. We see the

drama unfold as we read the narrative

and are invited to become part of the

story, to love, to forgive, and to heal

one another. And, that is why the

Church venerates the Cross of Christ.

It is the sacred instrument of our

salvation. Let us pray, “O Jesus, my

God, make me realize from now on that

it is I who made you bleed, yet

remember me when you come into your

kingdom.” Amen. Have a blessed

Holy Week!

Yours in Christ,

Fr. Vincent
