Most of us know to-day as Palm Sunday, although officially in the Church it is called Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Pas-sion, and to many Church leaders it is simply Passion Sun-day, which comes from the Latin name for it, Dominica Pas-

sionis. We have reflected on this day previously how the liturgy begins with great joy and becomes more and more somber with the reading of the Passion.

During the procession of the palms Jesus arrives in Jerusalem to great tumult and rejoicing as the people cry out “Hosanna> blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, hosanna in the highest.” As the Mass progresses we get an overview of what is to occur during this holiest of weeks, including the institu-tion of the Eucharist, the passion and death of the Lord, the pre-diction of His Resurrection, and then His Resurrection itself.

Imagine the confusion of the Twelve Apostles. Jesus has been spending time with them in the recent weeks prior to the Passion trying to get them to understand that His time of suffering was near and approaching, and that is the reason He must go to Je-rusalem. And here is the crowd welcoming and praising and laughing and celebrating His presence.

We are not much different in many ways, but now is the time for us to really embrace and understand the sacrifice the Lord made for each of us, and the incredible gift He has given us. In the coming days it is our final chance to truly rededicate ourselves to being His disciple. Copyright © 2010 www.THECATHOLICSTEWARD.com

For the WeekFor the WeekFor the WeekFor the Week A Thought From St. Francis De SalesA Thought From St. Francis De SalesA Thought From St. Francis De SalesA Thought From St. Francis De Sales Make frequent spiritual aspirations to God by means of short but ardent movements of the heart. Marvel at His beauty, implore His help, cast yourself in spirit at the foot of the cross, adore His goodness, and beg Him that you may be saved eternally. Give Him your heart and offer your soul to Him thousands and thousands of times. Fix the eyes of your soul upon His gentle face and hold Him by the hand, just as a small child does with his father.

I am the light of the world: he that fol-I am the light of the world: he that fol-I am the light of the world: he that fol-I am the light of the world: he that fol-I am the light of the world: he that fol-I am the light of the world: he that fol-I am the light of the world: he that fol-I am the light of the world: he that fol-I am the light of the world: he that fol-I am the light of the world: he that fol-I am the light of the world: he that fol-I am the light of the world: he that fol-loweth Me, walketh not in darkness, but loweth Me, walketh not in darkness, but loweth Me, walketh not in darkness, but loweth Me, walketh not in darkness, but loweth Me, walketh not in darkness, but loweth Me, walketh not in darkness, but loweth Me, walketh not in darkness, but loweth Me, walketh not in darkness, but loweth Me, walketh not in darkness, but loweth Me, walketh not in darkness, but loweth Me, walketh not in darkness, but loweth Me, walketh not in darkness, but shall have the light of life. ~ John 8:12shall have the light of life. ~ John 8:12shall have the light of life. ~ John 8:12shall have the light of life. ~ John 8:12shall have the light of life. ~ John 8:12shall have the light of life. ~ John 8:12shall have the light of life. ~ John 8:12shall have the light of life. ~ John 8:12shall have the light of life. ~ John 8:12shall have the light of life. ~ John 8:12shall have the light of life. ~ John 8:12shall have the light of life. ~ John 8:12

Imagine a dark church illuminated by a single sanctuary lamp. When a church is empty and Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament is alone, the lamp

pays homage to its Creator. The flame keeps constant vigil, like a faithful soul who kneels before God in adoration, while so many abandon Him or turn against Him. The dominant note of the lamp speaks of the relationship between Creator and creature, Re-deemer and redeemed. It is a resting place for the Catholic soul. Like three bells in perfect harmony, it echoes Our Lord's words: "I am the way, the truth and the life." (John 14:6)

If you would like to dedicate the Sanctuary Lamp for one or more weeks, call Peg at Ext. 10.

EEEEASTERASTERASTERASTER BBBBELLSELLSELLSELLS!!!! If you will be attending the Holy Thursday service on April 13 at 7:00 PM, we invite you to bring a bell to ring during the Gloria. After this time, the bells will be silent until the Gloria is heard at the East-er Vigil. Everyone is encouraged to bring any manner of hand bell to the Easter Vigil on April 15 at 8:15 PM. The dissonance of bells, joined with our joyous singing, will express in a special way the delight we experience as the ALLELUIA is sung once again!

Our Easter Flower Program contributes to the celebration of Life in the Risen Lord and provides an opportunity to decorate our sanctuary and altar. An Easter flower envelope is in your envelope packet.

Our next date is Saturday, May 6, from 8:30 AM to 1:00 PM. To volunteer call Peg at Ext. 10.

As Lent winds down and we approach Easter, please make the time to join in the worship services that will be cele-brated at Saint Cecilia during Holy Week. Enter anew into the life, death and resurrection of Jesus, and allow His life and love to grow within you.

Wednesday, April 12 : Confessions held in the Church at 1:00 PM and 7:00 PM. No confessions on Holy Saturday.

Holy Thursday, April 13 at 7:00 PM: Mass of the Lord’s Supper

The evening Mass of the Lord's Supper begins the Paschal Triduum, the most sacred moment in the Church's life. The service includes the washing of the feet from John’s Gospel. This ritual action represents the service and charity of Christ and is a way of experiencing the evangelical command of the Lord to love one another. The holy oils that have been blessed by Bishop Dewane earlier this week will be received into the community this evening. Bring your bells to ring tonight during the singing of the Gloria! Afterwards the Blessed Sacrament will be available for Adoration at the Altar of Repose in the Parish Hall until the closing prayer at 10:00 PM.

Good Friday, April 14 at 2:00 PM: Solemn Liturgy and Veneration of the Cross

Good Friday, the second day of the Triduum, is the solemn remembrance of Jesus' death on the Cross. The liturgy is very restrained and straightforward. There are no greetings or opening songs. We simply come and prostrate in humble submission before the Word and the glorious Cross of Christ.

Holy Saturday, April 15 at 3:00 PM: Blessing of Food

Bring some of your Easter table food to be blessed for the first meal of Easter, when fasting is ended and the Church is filled with feasting and joy.

Holy Saturday, April 15 at 8:15 PM: Easter Vigil

Beginning with a service of light around a fire, we turn our attention to the Light of Christ as the light of day fades away. Through song and scripture our story of salvation is told. Adults who are to be baptized or to be received into full communion of the Catholic Church will be con-firmed at this time, and as a community we renew our Baptismal vows. Bring a bell to ring!

Easter Sunday, April 16

Continuing the beauty of the Easter Vigil celebration, Easter Sunday Masses (7:30, 9:00 and 11:00 AM) allow us to renew our baptismal promises and celebrate the wonder of the Resurrection.

There is also a 9:30 AM Children’s Mass at Bishop Verot Auditorium followed by an Easter egg hunt.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Christians world-wide are united in a special way during Lent, Holy Week and Easter. Our hearts, minds and prayers are also especially aware of the Holy Land as Catholics gather to contribute to the Pontifical Good Fri-day Collection. Since the time of St. Paul, who urged his missionary Churches not to forget the needs of the Church in Jerusalem, Christians worldwide have under-stood their responsibility to support the land where Je-sus walked.

The Collection supports parishes, schools and religious education in the Holy Land, as well as aiding in the preservation of the sacred shrines for pilgrims. Further, it provides humanitarian aid to Christians and others whose lives have been disrupted by war in the Holy Land Region. In addition, it allows for a direct opportuni-ty for all of us to be witnesses of peace by our own sup-port.

The Holy Land Collection in the Diocese of Venice will be taken up on Good Friday, April 14. Your support is a sign of Christian unity, which helps protect the Holy Places and assists Christians in the Holy Land. May God bless you for your generosity to the Faithful in the Holy Land.

This opportunity is taken to extend to you my continued consideration as well as my prayers. Have a Blessed Holy Week!

Sincerely yours in Christ,

+ Frank J. Dewane
