Technology PlanGuiding Principles
A clear focus on supporting the
flexible delivery of instruction
and assessment – supporting
students to build life and work
skills.
Future Ready 204
It is vital for the District to have
easy access to information and
online resources “just-in-time,”
whenever and wherever, using
the best tool to deliver insights.
Easy Access
It is critical to classify, deliver
and promote security and
digital protection from
unauthorized or inadvertent
access, while not creating
unnecessary barriers.

Developing the Technology Plan
...going digital means [… we] can be more
involved in a student's learning, even though they
are not in-class with the student. - District Parent
“”
65%of respondent families indicated that students
should be learning about internet safety and
digital citizenship behaviors before the 3rd grade.
1 To identify our 15% random sample, Technology Services started by gathering a list of all students from grades 6 - 12 and their parent/guardians (P/G). In cases where students had multiple P/G, our list was filtered to one P/G per student. The list was further limited to an individual P/G per family, even if they have multiple children. This prevented a P/G from potentially receiving multiple surveys. From this list (N=17,213), the RAND() Excel
function was assigned to each remaining row to assign a random string of numbers to each P/G. Once sorted by random number, the top 15% were selected for the survey (N=2,582). From this 444 responses were received,
representing a 17% response rate from the pool.

technology prepares students for their future.
Thank you for supporting my tech since I began school.
This creates a bridge between the round tables of administration to the musty desks of high school. Thank
you for making my life at school easier and much more
applicable to the real world. I just wanted to show gratitude to the people who make our classes run
smoothly and our educations of great quality. - 10th Grade NV Student

Gartner’s Hype Cycle
for Education
Hype Cycles identify the promise of an emerging
technology within the context of an industry and individual “appetite” for risk.
Early publicity produces a number of success stories — often
accompanied by scores of failures. Some companies take
action; many do not.Mainstream adoption starts to take off. Criteria for assessing
provider viability are more clearly defined. The technology's
broad market applicability and relevance are clearly paying off.

going support of tools that enable holistic District
collaboration and communication.
Goals
Goal 2:
Anytime, Anywhere, Future ReadyReinforce and support the innovation, development and
work of our District staff and students for critical thinking
and problem-solving skills with “just-in-time” access for
learning and engagement.
Goal 3:

teachers and students to support teaching and learning.
Goal 4:
Community and Global ConnectionsBridge technology connections between the District, our
Schools and the community using technology to support
growing technology literacy in the community.
Goal 5:
Online Safety, Security and
ResponsibilityProvide and facilitate an innovative and education-focused
approach for technology security. This includes
administrative procedures, training and technology
implementations
Goal 6:

one-stop access to data, information and support.
Goal 7:
Digital Equity and Beyond AccessSupport digital equity and make steps to further reduce the
homework gap.
11
Technology Services
The District is looking for opportunities to collaborate
and engage in ways other than e-mail. Shifting to a
more agile approach, while ensuring safety, provides
opportunities for Technology Services to be more
responsive to the needs for engagement.
This goal supports the development,
implementation, advancement and on-going
support of tools that enable holistic District
collaboration and communication.
About the Goal
Goal 1:Collaboration and Communication
Example Projects
Email Migration to Office 365 4,000 email accounts migrated, including email,
contacts, tasks, calendaring and Skype for Business to
the cloud. Increased mailbox size to 100GB and
expands opportunities for connected engagement and
collaboration.
Video ConferencingOn-demand, self-service access to desktop or
conference room-based video conferencing for staff
will support District collaboration and communication.
This will also increase opportunities for C&I’s World of
Work program to invite outside speakers.
WiFi Calling on Mobile DevicesSaturation of mobile devices on cell towers in our area may limit cell
signal and quality. Enabling WiFi calling on our wireless network will
improve access to eligible cellular devices and provide a more reliable
experience for District staff.
Live Transcription and TranslationLeveraging Microsoft Translate, staff and students can receive a live
transcription in English and to any of 64 languages available. This will
enable people deaf, hard of hearing students, families, and/or language
learners to follow and participate in discussions using their language
and a personal computer, laptop, tablet or smart phone.
Consider the possibilities…

Technology Services

Technology Services
Greater than 90% of the District community who
responded to our surveys and focus groups identify the
value of technology in the preparation of students for
future success. In support of Future Ready 204 and
Portrait of a Graduate, Technology Services needs to
ensure that data and resources are available on-demand,
anytime, anywhere.
This goal will reinforce and support the innovation,
development and work of our District staff and students
for critical thinking and problem-solving skills with
“just-in-time” access for learning and engagement.
About the Goal
Goal 2:Anytime, Anywhere, Future Ready
Example Projects
1:1 Devices for StudentsTech Services will continue to leverage Chromebooks
for elementary students as they are a foundation for
technology soft and hard skills. We are investigating
devices for middle school and high school students that
can further refine the skills and learning to support
college and career.
1:1 Devices for StaffTech Services is exploring new models of our current
equipment to leverage features like a 360-degree
touch-screen which will support teacher mobility in
the classroom and collaboration.
Industry Certifications and CompetenciesIn partnership with C&I, we are exploring providing students and staff
with access to industry certifications from companies like Adobe,
Apple, Autodesk and Microsoft. Certifications are well recognized by
businesses and position our students for career and opportunities for
college credit – depending on exam.
WiFi Connectivity and Heat Map StudiesBy evaluating the strength, quality and level of access available to
District devices, we can ensure the highest possible level of service to
users. Efforts in this project would include evaluating and surveying our
equipment, and relocating, adding or adjusting wireless access points.

Technology Services
Our focus groups identified increasing feedback from
teachers and students that wanted a classroom with flexible seating with opportunities to be “untethered for the front of
the room.” In addition to C&I’s work with learning space
design, Flea Market Flip Your Classroom and flexible seating, Technology Services needs to evaluate
adjustments to a traditional model.
This goal will support the development and implementation
of a set of technology hardware and software options for classrooms, teachers and students to support teaching
and learning.
About the Goal
Goal 3:Rethinking Learning Space Design
Example Projects
Evaluating and Refreshing Classroom TechSmartboards, whiteboards, projectors, screens! Through
our focus group feedback, Tech Services will work
towards developing a set of available equipment for
teachers, identified by teachers and staff as we begin
our refresh process.
eLearning PlatformIn coordination with C&I, Technology Services will
support the implementation process and on-going
technical support for an eLearning platform.
Code Incubator and InnovationTechnology Services will implement a code environment that provides
safe sandboxes for students and teams to develop their own code
projects.
Technology Services & PD On-DemandWith an amazing foundation and on-going evolution of PD On-Demand,
our department will begin offering videos for the District community on
a variety of topics.

Technology Services
From our parent and community online focus groups
and surveys, we received a clear call to action for
providing increased opportunities for families to learn
more about technologies like their child’s
Chromebook.
This goal will bridge technology connections
between the District, our Schools and the
community using technology to support growing
technology literacy in the community.
About the Goal
Goal 4:Community and Global Connections
Example Projects
Online Training and WorkshopsWe will develop a series of online and in-person
training sessions and short-videos that will provide
training on a variety of topics for the community.

children, Technology Services is working towards implementing single
sign-on access to engage with District resources. One password for all
services.
16
Technology Services
The largest growing trend for CIO/CTO’s across all
industries is cybersecurity. As threats increase for data
security, the role of each user is even more critical in
protecting the District and the community.
This goal will promote, provide and facilitate an
innovative and education-focused approach for
technology security. This includes administrative
procedures, training and technology implementations.
About the Goal
Goal 5:Online Safety, Security and Responsibility
Example Projects
Digital Citizenship and OpportunitiesIn partnership with C&I, we will promote additional
opportunities to engage with digital citizenship lessons
and online resources.
Phishing Awareness and InterventionWe continue to provide phishing awareness exercises
and have identified significant increases in awareness,
as well as reductions in clicks on phishing test emails.
Web Filter UpgradeTechnology Services will be upgrading our web filter to provide a more
intuitive staff experience, as well as advanced filtering for YouTube and
other sites. We will be piloting a weekly parent report for families that
opt-in for the offering.

Technology Services
In partnership with Curriculum and Instruction, Human
Resources, Student Services, Business Services and
other units, technology serves as a vital link across
data and access to information.
This goal will deliver and support a District-wide
unified approach for one-stop access to data,
information and support.
About the Goal
Goal 6:Unified Self-Service and Support
Example Projects
Student Information System ReplacementThe District started an evaluation process for the replacement
of our current student information system. The target ‘go-live’
date is the beginning of the 2020-2021 academic year, with implementation during the 2019-2020 academic year.
Digital Records ManagementThe District has a large volume of paper records. Tech
Services will work with individual units and our
attorneys to advance to digital workflows and paper
reduction.
Self-Service Software Delivery (Mac & PC)Rather than making a support request, Tech Services is working
towards self-service delivery of software applications – on-demand.
This includes PC and Mac platforms.
Printing from DevicesDistrict feedback was very clear – provide printing capabilities to
students. We are evaluating our options to implement such a solution by
the beginning of the 2019-2020 academic year, with input from our focus
groups, teachers and other stakeholders on the best way to implement
the solution.
18
Technology Services
As referenced in District goals, Technology Services has
taken, and will continue to take, an intentional lens toward
reducing the digital equity gap.
We’re excited to announce that we were accepted to the
1Million Project to provide hotspots at no charge to
eligible high school students. Eligible families will be
contacted on a rolling basis beginning April 9th to enroll.
This goal will support digital equity and make steps to
reduce the homework gap further.
About the Goal
Goal 7:Digital Equity and Beyond Access
Example Projects
