FAITH FORMATION JOB OPENING

Coordinator, K-6 Faith Formation program The Search Committee of the Parish is currently looking to fill this position beginning in August 2019. Below are the qualifications deemed necessary to be considered for this ministry.

A Faith Formation Coordinator... *Understands and is faithful to the basic teachings of our Catholic faith supported by a strong prayer life

*Is willing and able to take classes in order to be certified Level I & II and complete Basic Leadership Training in the Archdiocese of New York

*Has experience teaching catechetical classes

*Has good communication skills with a deep desire to share our Catholic faith with children and their families

*Has the ability to lead prayer and catechetical sessions for children and parents including Sacramental Prep programs and Family Catechesis

*Has the ability to enlist, train, and support volunteers to serve as catechists and aides

*Can oversee the Safe Environment program within the Faith Formation program

*Is very flexible knowing that, at times, weekends and evenings beyond regular hours will be required

*Understands that this position is a ministry and will usually require more than 18 hours per week

CARDINALS APPEAL UPDATE

So far we have received 72 gifts totaling $19,730, which represents 34% of our goal of $57,500. This does not include donations through the in-pew appeal, which are still being tabulated. If you receive one, you are advised to: - never text back - never click on a link - report these texts to your cell phone’s carrier AND also please inform the rectory office if you receive one. Please know that my personal practice is that if there is ever such a need for notifying you about something like this, it can always wait until the weekend and we will announce it at Mass. We might alert you by Flocknote but never ask you to contribute by a text...

FIFTH SUNDAY OF LENT

HOLY THURSDAY OVERNIGHT EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

“I stand at the door of your heart and call... Open to Me, for I THIRST FOR YOU...”

As we explained in last week’s bulletin, our parish will keep watch with Jesus in the Most Blessed Sacrament after the celebration of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday evening until 9am on Good Friday morning. Eucharistic Adoration is a powerful way to pray and meditate on Christ’s enormous gift of love for us through his suffering and death on the cross. If you have never spent an hour with Jesus in the quiet of the night, you will truly be amazed by the way in which He responds to your presence with Him. We are hoping that all the one-hour time slots on the sign-up sheet will be filled, but you can come anyway, even if it is for a shorter time. If you fear becoming restless or distracted during this time because you are so used to “doing things,” we have some suggestions for you.

1. Pray the Psalms or the Liturgy of the Hours – Whether you’re praising, giving thanks, asking for forgiveness or seeking an answer, you’ll find an appropriate psalm. The ancient prayer of the Church called the Liturgy of the Hours presents an excellent way to pray through the Book of Psalms throughout the year.

2. Recite the “Jesus Prayer” – Say “Lord Jesus, have mercy on me, a sinner” repeatedly as you quiet your heart and mind.

3. Meditate using Scripture – Choose a passage from the Bible; read the words and ask God to let the passage speak to you. Pay special attention to anything that strikes you and ask God what he wishes you to draw from that message.

4. Read the life of a saint and pray with him or her – Most holy men and women have had a great devotion to Our Lord in the Eucharist. Therese of Lisieux, Catherine of Siena, Francis of Assisi, Thomas Aquinas, and Mother Teresa of Calcutta, are just a few. Read about them and pray their prayers before the Blessed Sacrament.

5. Pour out your heart to Christ and adore Him – Speak to Jesus, aware that you are in His presence, and tell Him all that comes to your mind. Listen for His response.

6. Ask for forgiveness and intercede for others – Think of those who have hurt you and request a special blessing for them. Ask God to forgive you for all the times you have neglected or hurt someone else. Bring before the Blessed Sacrament all those who have asked you to pray for them. Ask the Lord to address their concerns.

7. Pray the Rosary – Ask Mary to join you as you gaze on Christ in the Eucharist and as you pray and meditate on the mysteries of the Rosary.

8. Sit quietly and just “be” in the presence of God – Think of a visit to the Blessed Sacrament as coming to see your best friend. Sit quietly and enjoy being in each other’s company. Instead of talking to the Lord, try listening to what he wants to tell you.

VOLUNTEERS FOR EASTER If you are interested in helping with decorating for Easter, please call the parish office this week. We will decorate after the Holy Saturday prayer service at about 10am.

In addition, we need a few volunteers to water the plants for a few weeks.

GOOD FRIDAY COLLECTION HOLY LAND

Pope Francis has asked our parish to support the Pontifical Good Friday Collection, which helps Christians in the Holy Land. Your support helps the church minister in parishes, provide Catholic schools and offer religious education. The Pontifical Good Friday Collection provides humanitarian aid to refugees.
