How to support St. Tim’s at this time Many people have asked how they can continue to support St. Timothy’s, and the work we are continuing to do, even though we are not gathering to celebrate the Mass together. The best way is to set up an online donation. Please visit this page on our website to get started and to learn more about the other ways you can support us. https://churchofsttimothy.com/supporting-st-tims-1. Where to Find the Most Current Information for St. Tim’s While this bulletin is a great source of information about what is happening at the parish, please note that it is put together and printed about ten days in advance of the date on the cover. We do have several other means of communication that are much more fluid and are updated frequently. Our website is the definitive source for the most current information, particularly in times when situations may be changing rapidly. We will post the most important updates and communications on the homepage. We also utilize an email program called Flocknote and typically we send out a Flocknote, to all who have subscribed to this service, each week and it contains brief reminders about things coming up in the next few days. Flocknote has also been used when we have urgent information to share with all of you. You can sign up for Flocknote on our website on the communications page,(churchofsttimothy.com/bulletin) or you can sign up by texting the word Blaine to 84576. We also are active on Facebook and will update our page with important news as appropriate. You can find us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/StTimothyBlaine. To reach us you can send an email to
Question of the Week: Source of Light Obedience and Humility
Jesus emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, being born in human likeness. And being found in human form, He humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death—even death on a cross. (Philippians 2:7–8) Matthew 21:1-11 - Triumphal entry into Jerusalem Isaiah 50:4-7 - Salvation only through the Lord's servant Philippians 2:6-11 - Jesus, compassionate high priest Luke 22:14-23-23:56 - The passion of Jesus •Adults: We are called to die to ourselves in love for others. How do you live that in your own life? •Kids: How do you allow Jesus to live in your heart?
Good Friday—a Time to Remember by Father Joe Whalen Good Friday remembers the day Jesus was condemned, crucified, and died. The Church has historically recalled these events with special liturgies, prayers, and rituals. Reenactments of Stations of the Cross, devotional prayers, and liturgies such as the Good Friday service or the Seven Last Words have all been popular ways in which Christians have sought to remember the passion of the Lord. Perhaps for some these celebrations seem maudlin, obsessed with honoring the torture and execution of an innocent man. From the outside looking in, one might see the point. But from the experience of Christian faith, Good Friday is a tremendous prayer of confidence in God’s saving power. Jesus was willing to go to such lengths to demonstrate the intent and
reality of God’s transformative love for humanity and for our world. Good Friday poses the questions to each of us: For what reason or purpose do we nurture the various envies, angers, or hatreds that lurk within? Can we see in the cross of Christ the outcome when we allow these things to fester within our own lives? Or, do we practice the finer art of denial, believing that we are somehow exempt personally from these experiences? And if we do find within ourselves this potential, is it then possible to see in the cross of Christ a different response, one that seeks to invert the process of rage and anger from the inside out, that is, by entrusting ourselves to a divine love that is far more powerful than the hatreds the world may bring forth? Jesus overcomes the envy and hatred of His adversaries with a supreme act of love, allowing us to see the
emptiness – the nothingness – of our rage and envy. These things lead only to death, of others, and of our own souls. But giving oneself to share in the love of God leads to life, and Jesus will again show the potential for this transformation on Easter Sunday. And so the two liturgical events are inextricably linked, one to the other, Good Friday, and Easter Sunday. One does not exist without the other, and both together show to us not only the power of God’s love to transform our lives and our world, but also show us that this potential for transformation is accessible to us, even now. In this moment, as we remember the death of the Lord, we pray together to put to death all envy, hatred, and anger in ourselves, that we might better practice the enduring work of God’s love even now, in the face of the many challenges that are currently before us.
