From the Desk of Father Kurt Dear Parishioners,
Traditionally the second Sunday of Easter is known as “Divine Mercy Sunday”. The reason for this is because it concludes the octave of Easter, in which we have celebrated for eight days the victory the Lord has won for us over sin, by his suffering, death and resurrection.
In the Gospel this Sunday, when Jesus appears to the apostles for the first time, the apostle Thomas is not there. When the other Apostles tell Thomas that they have seen the Lord, he does not believe them. It is not until Jesus appears to Thomas and allows Thomas to put his hand in his wounds, that Thomas finally gets on his knees and says my Lord and my God.
For some people it takes more than others to come to believe and place their life in the hands of Jesus. The story of Thomas helps us realize that it does not matter so much, how long it takes us to get there, but that we get there. Jesus is very patient with us, but sooner or later, if we want to receive the mercy of God, we are going to have to get down on our knees and say my Lord and my God.
Love in Christ, Father Kurt Farrell
