Brooks High School April 22nd, 2010 April 22nd, 2010 April 22nd, 2010 As always Brooks has been a very busy school since Easter. This week we have had our Anzac Assembly and next week will be our Grade 10, Positive Future (No Dole) Charter Signing. This gives our Grade 10’s an opportunity to pledge a positive future for themselves. Parents, especially those of Grade 10 students, please make the effort to come along to this assembly. Our building work is progressing well. The new science block now has a roof and some walls. When finished it will be a very high tech learning space. I know Science teachers can’t wait to move in. The old science block has now been gutted ready for a complete refit for much needed general purpose classrooms. We move into these areas in late June if all goes well. Our grounds development is going well and very soon we will have the extra support of a Green Corp team who will work on some key areas for us. I will be on Long Service leave from 5 th May until 28 th May, the end of Term 1. Josh is a dancer who has worked with a number of classes in helping develop the dance skills of some of our staff and students. We appreciate your work, your skill and enthusiasm Josh and I am certain we will see you back at Brooks again in the future. Contact between home and school is vital if your child is going to achieve with their education. Please feel free to make contact with your child’s class teacher, their grade supervisor or one of the senior staff. We are here to listen and to help. We have been volunteering in the canteen since

grade nine and have enjoyed the experience a great

deal. Mrs Baron has shown us good work ethics

and the ins and outs of serving customers and

working with money. We have learnt a lot of skills

that will definitely help us in the near future when

we go out and search for a job.

You will usually see us working in the canteen in

our own time at recess and lunch, or helping Mrs

Baron prepare food and stock fridges before there

are customers. We have had to show discipline

and responsibility with keeping up with our roster

to ensure that the canteen continues to run

efficiently.

By working in the canteen we have established new

friendships and engaged new responsibilities within

our school. The time that we have spent working

in the canteen has been full of laughs and fun. We

encourage students to volunteer for experience in

the canteen either this year or their upcoming years

at Brooks High School.

HOHUM MOCK INTERVIEWS HOHUM MOCK INTERVIEWS PART OF THE PART OF THE

“POSITIVE FUTURES PROGRAM”“POSITIVE FUTURES PROGRAM”

On Tuesday, 30th March, Mrs Howard and Mrs Humphrey’s class took part in a mock interview to prepare us for the future. In preparation for the interview we had to put together a portfolio which involved, a resume, a cover letter, certificates of achievement to show what we have done in the past, a business card, photos of work and our end of year Grade 9 report. On the day of our interview we were required to dress up as we would do for a real interview. Suitable clothing meant students wore suit pants or skirts, and shirts or nice tops with black shoes. We had 12 employees from different businesses around Launceston come in to the school to interview us. After they interviewed us they gave us some good constructive feedback that we could use when we go for jobs in the future. The interviews went well and everyone in the class was given great advice that will help them in the future when it comes to getting the job they want.

Everyone learnt something new from the experience

and will now remember these things for the future.
