And just as he raised Christ from the dead, he will give life to your mortal body by this same Spirit living within you.” Romans 8:11 As I write this article, the church building is very quiet as the “Wee Angels” children are not in the building. I have grown accustomed to the different sounds of life emanating from the children’s wing. So the quiet is almost haunting because every- thing seems “dead” right now. Plus, all schools are closed, restaurants have gone to drive through only, and we have been encouraged to stay away from one another, causing us to be unable to wor- ship in the same space together. So indeed everything feels lifeless. But Resurrection (Easter) Sunday is just around the corner! Death could not hold him, the grave couldn’t keep him! The bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ also means that there is no power in heaven nor earth that is greater than our God’s power! For if God can raise the dead, He can cer- tainly get us through anything! And the Apostle Paul reminds us in Romans 8:11 that the very Spirit of God that raised the lifeless body of Christ lives in us. This means that we have already escaped death before we even die! It means that even if the world seems lifeless right now, that our God’s Spirit is still alive and well and is living in us. Therefore, even though the world may seem a bit bleak right now, we know that our God is with us and in us. So, we have a reason to rejoice! CONCERNING HOLY WEEK SERVICES You are probably all wondering what we will do if we cannot meet for Holy Week. The answer is: WE WILL WORSHIP TOGETHER. Since we now offer live stream services over Facebook as well as the new conference call system (see article in this newspaper). We will have services of some kind on Holy Thursday, and Good Friday at 6:30 pm. If we are able to meet together for these, then thanks be to God! But if we cannot, I will work with others to provide a meaningful ser- vice to help us recall what our Lord has done for us. The same will apply for Easter Sunday. If we are able to meet, we will have our normal two services at their normal times. If not, we will have one live streamed service. Then, when we are able to come together, we will have a celebration of our Lord’s resurrection. So rest assured, we will NOT skip over the celebration of the single most important event in all of his- tory. WE WILL CELEBRATE JESUS! Introducing Our Newest Way to Be in Touch

We have just recently purchased an application that will allow each of you to hear both our new Thursday Night Service (held at 6:30) as well as our regular Sunday morning services. To use this service dial 425-585-7512. You will then hear something about a code; ignore that. Next, you will hear a prerecorded welcome from Pastor Dee. Follow-ing that you will be prompted to say your name, please do so. At that point you should be joining the group. It may take a few moments for everyone to sign on, so don’t hang up, just keep listening. You should NOT attempt to join too early before each service. I would suggest about 6:25 for our Thursday night service and about 5 minutes before the start of our Sunday services, which will be held at 2 p.m. We plan to continue this until we can resume ser-vices at the church again.

HOLY WEEK EVENTS

NOTE: Please watch for emails and phone mes-sages so that you can stay informed about our Holy Week. Chances are we will have our Maundy Thursday and Easter Sunday via live stream and/or our new conference calling system.

Unfortunately, our bills keep coming even if our doors are closed. Let’s stay faithful with our tithing. Please mail your tithes to:

RBCFUMC

3208 Rainbow Drive Rainbow City, AL 35906

Or go to the church website rbcfumc.org and click on “giving” and follow the prompts.

Thanks to all who have contributed to the fellowship hall worship space project. We have new lighting with dimmers and new carpet has been installed on the stage. Gerry Cagle and Bo Bohannon have worked hard on installing the backdrop wall. It looks great!

Dear First United Methodist Church of Rainbow City, Thank you so much for your generous monetary donation given to us during the hardest time of our lives. You will never know how appreciative we were and are at the time we received the donation. Your church touched our hearts in a mighty way and you all will always re-main close to our hearts. Please continue to pray for us as Baby Maylee earned her wings on February 27, 2020. She turned one year old on Febru-ary 7, 2020 and was never able to come home from the hospital. God will meet your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4: 19. In Christ, Rhett and Kimberly Lister

Church T-shirts! You may have seen folks wearing these t-shirts around the church. We have nice, heavy cotton, prewashed t-shirts with our church name along with a wonderful message still available for $11 each. ($12 for sizes 2x and 3x) We strongly encourage you to purchase one so that we can all wear them to cer-tain church activities. Call the church of-fice at 256-442-3620, if you want to pur-chase one.

Meet Anne Carpenter!

Growing up in Eufaula, Alabama, Anne joined the First Baptist Church at 12 years old. She enjoyed singing in the choir and graduated from Eufaula High School as an honor student. Anne attended Huntingdon College for two years, then transferred to Auburn University where she received her B.S. in home eco-nomics education and M.S. in family life education and sociology. She spent 30 plus years in teaching, research, and extension for Auburn University. She re-tired as Lee County Agent in home economics. Anne was married to Lee-Scott Academy headmaster, Thomas Church and helped rear two teenage step children. After his death, she married Bill Carpen-ter, a statistician at Ampex Magnetic Tape. She has five grandchildren, who she adores.

Meet Jan Denton!

Jan Denton was born in Picayune, Mississippi. She was married in Anchorage, Alaska and has two sons. One lives in Birmingham, AL and the other one lives in Ft. Mill, South Carolina. Between them, she has four grandchildren. Jan has traveled quite a bit in her life, mostly due to her career in the Trade Show Business and has had the opportunity to meet some famous people. She has lived in several places including the Greek Island Crete in the Mediterrane-an Sea. Her favorite hobby these days is reading. If you get an opportunity, sit down and have a chat with Jan. She has some interesting stories to tell.

WELCOME Stephen Arnold

(joined in February).

Steve moved here from Wake Forest, NC to be close to Kay’s remaining family. They were members at Millbrook Baptist Church in Raleigh, NC. Stephen retired from the U. S. Air Force in 2004 and retired from SCHNEIDER Electric (Square D) in 2015. Stephen is spending much of his time trying to get retired life figured out and is looking forward to being part of the church family!

Meet Donna Walden! Donna was a member of this church for a long time, but moved to Trussville to be closer to her children, where she joined Trussville FUMC. However, due to some health issues she felt she needed to be somewhere where she could get some addi-tional help, therefore she moved to Regency Pointe. We welcome her back home. She is pictured here with her oldest son, Lance.
