Spring seems to be a bit shy to come out to play!

It is ‘I Love Math’ month and we are going ‘Back to

the Basics’. Students are creating amazing word

problems and solving math challenges! They are

also speeding up their recall of math facts! Thank

you to everyone who supported our Math-A-Thon!

We only fund raise every two years and appreciate

the funds we raise to support the many terrific

activities we engage our students in. I also want to

encourage everyone to continue being a ‘well orga-

nized worker’. We recognize someone from each

class at monthly assemblies who keeps their area

organized, follows instructions, uses their planner

wisely and delivers notes home and to school in a

timely manner.

Dyakuju to all the parents and grandparents who helped

our EUBP students get ready for and celebrate Easter!

Many helping hands were needed to make paskas (Easter

bread), Pysanky (decorated Easter eggs) and set-up/

clean-up the hall for the Easter blessing. We are so

blessed to have so many beautiful volunteers!

Our grade 6 students will attend Ukrainian Language

Camp from April 25th-27th at the University of

Manitoba. This EUBP sponsored language camp allows

students to mingle with other EUBP grade 6 students

while they learn about Ukrainian culture and heritage,

explore different science disciplines and participate in

activities such as wall climbing, archery and swimming.

Dear Petrusia,

Why do we put butter in our

Ukrainian Easter Basket?

From, Ms. Yarema.

Dear Ms. Yarema,

Butter symbolizes goodness and is

often carved into the shape of a

lamb.

Lost and Found In an attempt to reduce the

number of items in our school's

Lost and Found, we are asking

parents to please put their chil-

dren's names in their clothing

and possessions. We will return

any labelled items to students.

Kindergarten Registration

for 2018-2019 We are now accepting kindergarten registrations

for both our English and English-Ukrainian Bilin-

gual programs for children born in 2013. The

English-Ukrainian program is available to all chil-

dren in the Lord Selkirk School Division. We ask

that parents register as soon as possible because

we provide readiness packages for children prior

to their entering kindergarten. This material will

help your child be better prepared for school.

For additional information,

please contact the school at 482-4521.

Here is more timely information from our HTS/ESMS Food and Nutrition committee:

Getting healthy meals on the table in a hurry takes less time than you might think. It's all about being prepared.

Plan your meals and do your shopping ahead of time.

Stock up on basics such as vegetables and fruit, whole grain bread, whole grain pasta and brown rice, milk,

yogurt, cheese, lean meat, fish, poultry, eggs, beans, lentils, nuts and seeds.

Use frozen or canned products to help speed up preparation time. For example, canned or bottled tomato-

based pasta sauces, frozen or canned vegetables, frozen or canned fruit, bagged salad greens, canned tuna

or salmon, canned beans or lentils.

Prepare foods in advance. Cook double the rice and freeze leftovers for another meal. Cook twice the

chicken or ground beef you need and keep extras to make chicken salad, enchiladas, chili or spaghetti sauce

the next day.

Cook up a big batch of soups, stews, casseroles, pasta dishes, cooked ground beef and pizza dough to keep

in the freezer.

Gr. 2 Cheer Team This year we were fortunate to have the ESJH cheerleading team come to our school to present one of their

cheers to the school during an assembly and spend a lunch hour teaching our Cheer Team a routine. We met

during lunch recesses practicing our routine during the month of March. The Cheer Team kicked off Spirit

week with their cheer at an assembly the week before Spring Break! Some members continued meeting for a

few lunch hours to work in small groups to create our own cheers which we presented at the last assembly.

Awesome job Cheer Team!
