June 2018– July 2018 Issue 412
June/July 2018 Summer has started off with a beautiful season in the Northwest... A big thank you goes out to local Girl Scout Troop 42168 and Boy Scout Troop 178 for planting flowers in our front flower bed to brighten up our center. Thank you! We held another fundraising event on Saturday, May 5th at Panda Express and they donated 20% of their proceeds for everyone that purchased meals with one of our coupons. We raised $224.96. Watch for flyers on our next restaurant event. Also don’t miss out Elvis event on Saturday, August 25th as it will be a fun performance with Elvis and his wife, Ann Margaret! We are pleased to announce that Catherine Lucas joined our staff on May 21st as the new Housing Manager. Gail Faulkner, our current housing manager retires in June and we wish her well and thank her for her dedication and commitment to our operation over the past 6 years. We would like to congratulate Haley Hjelmaa as she has been promoted to the Housing Assistant and Samantha Lenker joins the housing staff as the new Maintenance Office staff member. Our annual volunteer appreciation event was wonderful and enjoyed by all who attended. Our thanks goes out to the Arlington High School Jazz Band who entertained us and did an outstanding job. What an awesome performance they gave! I am often asked why we can’t afford to make certain upgrades and in large part because our ongoing expense for maintenance continues to challenge our budget. Some of our recent repairs have been: $1,100 repair for our kitchen ice maker, $500 for roof repair, $4,400 for sidewalk repairs, and $2,800 for labor and material for the back parking lot that had sunken. Lastly, did you retire from a large company?.....Did you know that companies like Boeing, Bank of America, and other companies have employee giving funds? They will match your volunteer hours and send us a donation payment and some will also match your donation to us dollar-for-dollar. If you retired from a large company and would like more information on how this will benefit the Stillaguamish Senior Center, please check with your former employer or if you need assistance, please see me and I will work with you to research this information. Sincerely,
Danette Klemens

THE CAREGIVER FIRST-AID KIT
“Caregiver First-Aid Kit” is a reminder of the special significance their role as a caregiver is for their loved one. The kit includes the following items: The MATCH is to strike up and rekindle friendships and call on those friends when needed. Friends can help you when you need a break from the demands of providing care to your loved one. By touching the match to the CANDLE, you are able to let the light shine through in your daily role as a caregiver. The POST-IT PAD is for you to be creative and draw. The CRAYON is for you to use in play, to color your world and to be creative. The LIFESAVER is to remind you that you are a lifesaver to your loved one by your willingness to be a caregiver
