Attendance- Every Day Counts and Every Minute Matters

Regular attendance at school is essential for a student’s success. It is impossible to recover the time lost from a missed day, and the more a student misses, the farther they fall behind. If a student is 10 minutes late to school each day, this adds up to missing more than 33 hours of class time.

A student with a 90 percent attendance average for Kindergarten through 12th grade will miss over a year of school.

If you know you will be keeping your child out of school on a particular day, let teachers know so they can provide your child with the classwork they would otherwise miss. Alert the school right away if your child will be absent for a long time due to their health or other emergencies Congratulations to the following classes for reaching the BULLPUPS pizza party attendance goal! Ms. Cornwell Ms. Brant Ms. Boerst Ms. Flowers Mrs. Miller

Recess We will go outside for recess every day that we can. We care about your child’s health but also know that outdoor activity is crucial to a healthy lifestyle. We have noticed that students continue to come to school in shorts and sweatshirts. Please be advised that they will be sent out for recess in the attire they wear to school. I just want to make sure everyone knows that the expectation is that students should dress warmly when coming to school so they can enjoy recess.

SCHOOL COUNSELOR’S NEWS Mrs. Jackson, Glenwood School Counselor

CELEBRATE ACADEMIC SUCCESS!!

She did it!! He learned all his multiplication tables. Or She was chosen Student of the Week. Setting goals and reaching them is one of the best ways to motivate children. Sometimes, just reaching the goal is enough. But other times an accomplishment calls for a celebration. So when your child sets and reaches a tough goal, try one of these fun ideas: -Take a picture. Get a picture of your child holding their report card, snap a pic of them in front of their science project. Frame it. That way they will see themselves as an achiever. -Plan a special surprise. Write down a goal your child wants to achieve. On the back write down a small reward-such as having a friend over for a sleepover. -Make a victory dinner. Set a “fancy” table. Cook your child’s favorite foods. Decorate the table.

KINDNESS COUNTS

Thoughts can lead to words, and words can lead to actions. That’s why kindness begins with

the way your child feels about others. Use these suggestions for raising a kind child.

Thoughts- Your child will be more likely to speak nicely to others if he/she is used to

thinking kindly. If she catches herself mentally criticizing a friend’s clothes, for example,

she might try to find something she likes about the outfit (“That shirt is a nice color”).

Words- The words your child chooses can affect her behavior towards people. Remind them

to avoid negative labels. Instead of calling someone “selfish”, for instance, he/she might say,
