Council Highlights

March 2014 Trinity Lutheran Church Council met March 9, 2016. Pastor Paul led discussion from Twelve Keys to an Effect Church, “Solid Decision Process”. The Council discussed how to go from a committee-based structure to a team-based ministry. April Council meeting will be on Chapter 7 “One Major Program”. Discussed the screen/projector project. Need people who have

an interest and passion in technology. Over 25 people have been contacted for council secretary position. The council is looking for ideas and any additional names. Wednesday JAM students and Confirmation youth pooled their stewardship offerings for the Faribault County (Blue Earth) Food Shelf. Their donations = $1217. There has been interest in having the Nursery cleaned and staffed. Last day of Sunday School for this term will be May 8th with a ‘Kid’s Program” for the 10:45 worship service. Property Committee recommended and Council authorized to let bids and raise funds for the parking lot project between Trinity and Wells Fargo Bank. Kim asked permission to have the Chapel re-painted into a War Room for prayer (see Kim’s article). Donna Perryman will have conversation with person interested in being office support staff while she is on vacation. Complete copy of minutes is available on

Dear Friends in Christ,

Donna Perryman contacted me and asked me if I would give a "Heads Up" on the status of the proposed new parking lot. This kind of takes me full circle on the project. I remember in 2003 when John Sawyer stood up in front of the Coffee Hour crowd, and solicited $32,000 to buy the property next door to the church, for possible use as a parking lot. What insight and leadership John had, to take that project on and get the property purchased. I am proud to say that Cala and I were part of the team, as were 30 some other faithful members of Trinity, to help purchase the property. With the property purchased 13 years ago, it is now time to take the next step. Last month at Property Committee (Old Trustees), the recommendation was passed to the full Council to approve letting of bids to start the construction process. A survey has been done, with the oversight of Bill Sayre and Ray Rhoda. Preliminary plans have been drawn and we're ready to get moving. Through the memorials of several past members, and some recent contributions, approximate-ly $20,000 is available for the Parking Lot fund. There is an additional $18,500 available from Bernice Anderson's estate, if the Council approves the use of the funds. It appears that we are about half way to the goal, using early budgeting figures. I had a great deal of respect for John Sawyer for his courage to take a stand and get the property bought. I would consider it a great honor if you would allow me to solicit the "Last $32,000" to make this project a reality, which was always John's dream. John did his in less than a week...Think we can beat that?

With the 125th anniversary celebration in progress, let's make a legacy for the future members of Trinity. A Parking lot would be a great way to start. I'm asking everyone to take the challenge and do whatever you can to make this a "Dream Come True". God bless you all for your commitment to Trinity. God's Peace, Clair Nassen

Information from your Church Council

Each Lenten season offers the opportunity to reflect on one’s faith journey and how we carry out our Christian mission. In thinking about this article I chose to use 3 P’s to provide an update on some aspects of Trinity’s mission. PRAYER – I hope we all appreciated Pastor Paul’s use of prayer as a theme during Lenten services. He reminded us that prayer is used to offer thanks and praise. We continue to be thankful for the many blessings found in this congregation and all the good that has been carried out by our members – past and present. We offer praise for the fine efforts of our staff and the many committee members who carry out our mission. Pastor also stated that prayer is used to ask for help in meeting our needs. Some of our on-going needs are to develop ways for Trinity to be a more welcoming place to worship and to increase

our outreach in terms of service to others. PROGRESS – The way forward is not always swift, but progress is continuing on some of our priorities. The sanctuary lighting is much improved. We are moving forward with a push to add a parking lot as a survey has now been completed. Discussions have taken place regarding supervision of the nursery again to help families with young children during worship. We are restarting a Stewardship committee to emphasize God’s blessings to us and our responsibilities year ‘round, rather than just in the fall. There is also interest in planning for more family activities at Trinity. PATIENCE – We again ask for patience on the part of members as the Council settles in after our restructured approach. There will be some bumps in the road, but we believe the smaller group can be more effective in planning and leading our efforts. Please continue to pray for the Call Committee as we seek to find our next pastor. A few interviews have taken place, more are being planned, but the number of candidates is limited and the process takes a long time. We all hope to see an increase in attendance and financial support at Trinity, and we believe this will happen as we move forward – but this too will take time. Continued on next page Trumpet Blasts! continued Please feel free to provide your input to members of the Council. Their names are found on the next page. Finally, please pray about the ways in which you can use your gifts to help move Trinity forward. Thank you. Steve Frederickson Council President

Do you have your armor on?

I have been sharing during Lent in the Sunday bulletins about a very powerful movie I watched last year called “War Room”. If you haven’t had the opportunity to see it, I highly recommend it. It’s a great story about the power of prayer. We have now shown it to our confirmation and senior high youth and they all loved it! One of the confirmation kids asked me “is this a war movie?” I responded “yes, we are at war every day.” I don’t think he knew what to expect when I said that but soon found out the war we are in every day is with the devil. We need to be prepared for battle and Scripture says…

We must “armor up”. The Armor of God Eph. 6: 10-18 10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can stand against the

powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.13 Therefore put on the full armor

of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything,

to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in

place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up

the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.

With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people……. And we have been doing

just that! During Lent the chapel has been turned into a “WAR ROOM”. People have written prayer requests on post-it

notes and the senior high youth have gone in there and prayed for those requests. There have been some very powerful,

emotional, spirit-filled things happening in that room. The JAM kids have also had the opportunity to visit the room to

write prayer requests down. They have all been so heartfelt. Sometimes all it takes is an opportunity and a place to

reach people and let them know they are not alone. Where two or three are gathered in His name, He is among

them.

I have asked the council permission to make the Chapel a “WAR ROOM” permanently and was given the go ahead to do

so. I shared this exciting news with the senior high youth at a recent lock-in and also told them that it will take some

money to make it possible. My plan was to write about it this month and seek donations. Later that evening, I went to

my office to find a sealed envelope from one of my senior youth with the note “Kim, I want the WAR ROOM to happen.”

In the envelope was a check for $300 to help the WAR ROOM become a reality. As you can imagine it was an emotional

discovery. I just sat there and stared at this check and cried and remembered this young man coming in 7th grade; it

seemed like yesterday, and then fast forward to witness his maturity and faith has been such a blessing. He values his

church so much and the concept of the room and what it can provide for people, he was moved to do something about it.

I love how the Holy Spirit leads people, and so humbled by his obedience to listen to the leading.

The room is still in need of some funding. Would you prayerfully consider helping this fund to grow so that we can

continue to have a sacred space for people to head into battle? Thank you in advance for your consideration. God Bless!

KID SUNDAY!!

For the kid in all of us...

I have very fond memories as a child of going to Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Doing crafts, playing

games and learning all the fun songs. Even now I can hear a song like ‘The B-I-B-L-E’ and start singing and tapping my

toes. I bet there are a few of you reading this who are doing the same thing right now! Hearing songs like that really

evoke very strong feelings for people; remembering a time and place where they learned them. For me it was at

Bricelyn Lutheran Church. One of the senior high boys that taught music at Bible School was Ken Kimball (Kayla’s

son). He had so much passion to teach. He made us want to learn. (Incidentally, Ken is now a pastor.) I believe

that music is something that can really connect people inter-generationally. Regardless of when it was that we

learned those stories and sang those songs, they still carry the same message and are still worth singing about!

That is exactly why we are planning a very special event on May 8tMay 8tMay 8tMay 8thhhh. The 10:45 service10:45 service10:45 service10:45 service that day will be centered around

kid-friendly liturgy, and songs. For the kid in all of us!! For the kid in all of us!! For the kid in all of us!! For the kid in all of us!! It is also the last day of Sunday School for the year so we plan to

celebrate all the good things happening with children and youth ministry at Trinity. We will have some very special things being

planned for the kids as well! More details will be coming… But for right now…. Mark your calendars for May 8tMay 8tMay 8tMay 8thhhh.

Letters have went home with the children with

information on Summer Camp to Ingham

opportunities for all ages. Please let me know

if your child did not receive one. I can get you

the information.

Mark your calendars for July 11-15th for Summer Day Camp at Trinity! We are excited to have

New Music Director at Trinity!

I am so pleased to welcome Maria Frank as our music director for our

K-6 kids. Maria works with the kids on Sunday mornings and

Wednesday afternoons. She started in January and is really loving the

position! The kids have sung twice in church since she began and they

did such a great job!! Maria and her husband Jeremy have 3

children: Reyes, Lulu and Clarissa.

It’s such a blessing when the body of Christ comes together to

share their gifts.

Thank you Maria
