Pastor Talk . . . From The Pen of Pastor Paul
Theologian and Christian Educator Vernon Grounds once wrote, “A friend told me of an
incident that happened while he was in seminary. Since the school had no gymnasium, he and his friends played basketball in a nearby public school.
Nearby, an elderly janitor waited patiently until they finished playing. Invariably he sat
there reading his Bible. One day my friend asked him what he was reading. The man
answered, ‘The book of Revelation.’ Surprised, my friend asked if he understood it. ‘Oh,
yes,’ the man assured him. ‘I understand it!’ ‘What does it mean?’ Quietly the janitor answered, ‘It means that Jesus is gonna win.’”
Grounds concludes, “That’s the best commentary I have ever heard on that book. Jesus
is going to win. That’s the biblical mind-set.” (Morning Glory, January 4, 1994, p. 9)
During the months of April and May, we are going to talk about how “Jesus is gonna win” as we walk thru the
Book of Revelation in our series entitled:
REVELATION: IT’S NOT SO SCARY!
April 2/3 – May 28/29
In these messages we will discuss the following themes:
God is in Control
God’s Message for Today’s Church
Events Fulfilled & Still to Come
An Opportunity to Repent The Persecution of the Church
The Beginning of Christ’s Final Victory
The Triumphant Return of Christ
Victory Over Satan
A New Heaven & a New Earth.
As we move thru the series, we will also touch on the following thoughts:
The Apostle John, the Historical time of John, John’s original audience and the purpose
of the Book of Revelation.
The Four Approaches to the Book of Revelation
Terms & Symbols such as: 666, 144,000, Antichrist, Armageddon, Mark of the Beast, Views of the Millennium, Persecution, Rapture, Judgment, Apocalypse and more.
The role of Jesus as the “Lamb of God” and what faith in Him will mean for eternity.
I love the words of the NIV Study Bible in its introduction of Revelation when it says,
“As you read the book of Revelation, marvel with John at the wondrous panorama of God’s
revealed plan. Listen as Christ warns the churches, and root out any sin that blocks your
relationship with him. Be full of hope, knowing that God is in control, Christ’s victory is
assured, and all who trust Him will be saved.”
As John says in Revelation 22:20, “Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.”
God’s Peace,
Pastor Paul

When writing a
personal check,
please make

It’s very important to write a note in
the memo portion of the of the check
stating whether the transaction is a payment or contribution.
Example:
Payment for Men’s Mission Trip, or Contribution for Youth Ministry.
2016 Adult Mission Trip: June 15 - 18
This year we will be working close to home with Habitat for Humanity Susquehanna in Harford and Cecil counties. The dates will be Wednesday, June 15, thru
Saturday, June 18, working from 8am- 4pm. We will have the opportunity to work at two sites with 15
workers per site each day. This year you will not have to commit to work every day. If you wish to only
work one day, that's fine. Please contact Bill Barkuloo at [email protected], if you wish to help. Let
Bill know as soon as you can because we are sure the volunteer slots will fill up. If you have never helped
with a "build" before, this is a great opportunity for a "first-serve" experience.
Also, we need volunteers to help prepare and deliver lunches to the sites each day. You will not have to
purchase the food and supplies. The food and supplies will be provided by the Mission Team.

“Trinity Graduates Score Big” Our 8th grade students are now receiving their “Acceptance Letters” from the senior high schools to
whom they submitted applications. The response is “Awesome”! Wow! is certainly appropriate.
The number of our students accepted into public “Magnet Schools” is outstanding. In order to be accepted into a Magnet School, the student must submit an application, an essay, and maintain an “A”
average on report cards. The Terra Nova Scores are also considered. Acceptance from private schools is
also outstanding.
Numerous students have received “Acceptance Letters” from multiple “first choice” schools.
Here are the first results:
The above results demonstrate the strength of our Reading, Math, Science and total programming. This
is another example of our students grading 2 to 3 years above their actual grade level.
We are very proud of the accomplishments of our 8th grade, which gives testimony to the two main
principles of the Trinity Lutheran Christian School:
#1 Christian Character
#2 Achieving Academics

Children’s Ministry
Trinity Talk Page 8 April 2016
Operation Christmas Child is a project sponsored by Samaritan’s Purse whereby shoeboxes are filled and
distributed to hurting children around the world. But
it is much more! These expressions of the love of God
provide the opportunity to share the gift of the Savior,
Jesus Christ with children and their families.
This year our approach to this project is going to be
different from past years. Instead of families filling
the shoeboxes on their own, we will be collecting
items throughout the year and will have a "packing
party" in early November to fill the boxes. More information on the "packing party" will come later.
There will be collection boxes at the Children's
Ministry Booth in the Narthex and at the Sunday
School Welcome Center in the educational building.
We will store these items until our packing party in November, when these items, along with others will
be placed in the boxes.
The boxes will be sent to children ages 2 - 14 so
keep this in mind as you make purchases.
Please join us in this worthwhile project; make your
purchases and look for the drop-off boxes when you
come to church.
For more information on this project, visit
www.samaritanspurse.org/occ. Any questions,
please call Carol Schafer, 410-679-4000, ext.

Trinity’s Lenten meals were enjoyed by
approximately 240 members and guests
every Wednesday and Maundy Thursday
during Lent. You donated approximately 100 pots of soup and 90 desserts! Many
of you made something to share every week! These
meals were a joint effort of the Fellowship Team’s
planning and the congregation giving of their time
and talents! Thank you for blessing this ministry!
THANK YOU... Frank Ostendorf, Bill & Mona Hall, Jim & Betty Manthei, Denise & Gary Shifflett, Valerie Berger,
Joan Rekus, Janet Vance, Mindy Kretchmer, and
Terri Mathews. The core team of volunteers who
came every week to plan and prepare during Lent.
A special thanks to our ENTIRE MAINTENANCE STAFF who moved tables and chairs several times
every Wednesday to accommodate our lunch and
dinners! Ralph Snider, Dave Collopy, Norma Hensley,
Jerry Townsley, Sammie-Jo Waters, and Samuel
Sumpter.
An extra special thanks to Richard, the school’s
cook, for letting us invade your workspace, sharing
your expertise, and making it fun!
The Fellowship Team is made up
of volunteers who enjoy serving
others in a fun atmosphere.
Some like to help behind the
scenes, while others like being part of the event. We do small
celebrations for groups in our church and we
offer fun gatherings churchwide. We are
looking for team members who would like to join us! Contact Terri Reardon to
learn what we are about and how you may
