In this wonderful play by Ronald Harwood, Aging Stars of the Operatic Firmament try to rebuild both their relationships and their musical gifts. Cecily Robson, Contralto, Wilfred Bond, Baritone and Reginald Paget, Tenor reside comfortably in a home for retired musicians. The unexpected arrival of superb Soprano, and Prima Donna, Jean Horton may complete their Quartet, but it also brings ripples of change and discontent.

When asked to restage their renowned Quartet from Rigoletto in celebration

of Verdi’s birthday, it is unthinkable that any other performer concern receive top billing. They were once the best and are determined to be so again, but unexpected challenges have to be met.

This charming comedy confi rms that there is no age limit to creativity or to love, and though decades may pass, the eternal music of friendship and affection play on.

Tickets are on sale now at the Sid Williams Theatre Ticket Centre (250) 338-2430 ext. 1

If you love textiles and want more weaving, knitting, quilting or spinning. Vancouver Island Fibre Fest is for you.

Registration for workshops has begun, with opportunities in knitting, weaving, quilting, fabric dye, appliqué, felting and Viking knitting.

This will be a fun and jam packed weekend you won’t want to miss. The workshops lined up are amazing, and we’re expecting another fabulous marketplace that promises great shopping.

The Fibre Marketplace will feature vendors from all over Vancouver Island, the Sunshine Coast and Gulf Islands. The popular Kids’ Corner is back as well to teach children skills for a lifetime.

Admission to the Fibre Fest is by donation, with all proceeds supporting the City of Campbell River Recreation & Culture Department’s Specialized Recreation Programs.

Layne and the team at 40 Knots Winery just fi lled 4000 bottles of 2014 Spindrift Brut. It will now sit on the lees for at least two years. Along with all the vine tying and mulching in the vineyard, the winery has been very active.

The vineyard and winery chores didn't hesitate to meet our early spring, keeping us on our toes and working hard to complete pruning cuts, pulling wood out of the trellis wires and tying the new canes down. So much happens behind the scenes to produce crisp lively and memorable wines but, by April 1st we will be ready to produce this year's grapes.

WINE WEDNESDAY MUSIC SERIES

We're thrilled to launch our exciting music series, on Wine Wednesdays. Held approximately, two evenings a month, you'll be able to hear a variety of music, while enjoying fabulous food and wine, on our Vineyard Terrace.

Starting on May 20th, each evening will have a specifi c theme. A few of the fabulous music styles you can expect are: jazz, blues, a cappella, orchestral, fl amenco, and a music comedy night.

NEW TASTING LOUNGE HOURS

To give you more opportunities to visit our Cellar Tasting Lounge, we are going to open more days. Beginning April 21st, you can stop

Why Horses? It's a cold, wet west coast morning. Why would a teenage girl be up, eager to get out of the house? Because the horses are waiting for her! They are ready for their breakfast, then it’s time to muck paddocks and then, best of all - a riding lesson.

Being involved with horses is hard and fulfi lling work, both on and off the horse. Riding is a delicate combination of strength, balance and co-ordination. It requires one to be calm while communicating with a very sensitive animal. In no other sport can you witness the impressive partnership between a small child (or adult) and a 1000 lb + animal.

Confi dence and self-esteem building come naturally with horses. The horse doesn't care what you look like, what you wear or what newest electronic device you have. Rather, the relationship with a horse is built on consistent loving care and compassion, both on his back and in his paddock. Horse people also learn quickly how to control their emotions, as horse have the keen ability to pick up on them. A rider can't be distracted by daily worries or a phone beeping. A rider must be fully present and in the moment to be successful in the saddle. A worthy challenge for all ages in our fast paced world!

We at Balance Equestrian Centre strive to create all-round horse-people, not just riders. We offer a "helper program," where young people can earn credit toward lessons as well as gain valuable

Pets & Equestrian

work experience. This work is not easy. Horses eat a lot - and you know what that means at the other end! Horses also require feeding four times a day, 30-50 litres of water per day and exercise. But this hard work pays off: Our helpers build a strong sense of responsibility and confi dence- two very important character traits for young people.

We want this environment to be as accessible as possible for all ages and abilities - riders can pony ride almost as soon as they can walk, and lessons start as young as age four. We have kind, knowledgeable school horses for all levels of riders. We also have STARS, Strathcona Therapeutic Riding Society, which offers the joy of riding and farm life to individuals with physical and cognitive challenges.

Everyday at BEC we have the pleasure of seeing kids conquer challenges in the riding ring, engage happily in work, and experience farm life and unstructured play. It’s not uncommon at the end of the day to fi nd a young lady quietly sitting with a horse in a paddock while another is in the ring training a goat to jump!

Want to learn more? Find us on Face Book, or check out our website www.BalanceEquestrian.ca or come on by! We have an Easter Family Day April 6th.
