The Council has prepared a new version of the Local Plan (Publication Draft) which was considered at a meeting of Full Council on Wednesday 23rd April 2014.

The Settlement Hierarchy Report 2014 identifi ed Leek Wootton as a ‘Growth Village’ being one of the most suitable for housing growth according to a range of sustainability indicators.

Hill Wootton was identifi ed as a ‘Limited Infi ll Village’ having a lower level of services and facilities but that limited infi ll development in this type of village would help to deliver a wider choice of housing and support services in nearby Growth Villages.

The consequent ‘in-setting’ of the village boundaries, taking them out of the green belt, is still proposed for both Leek Wootton and Hill Wootton but now excludes Woodcote House.

In rural areas like ours, developments will be expected to provide a mix of housing

New draft Local Planin accordance with a local village or parish housing needs assessment.

At the old Police Headquarters site, where Woodcote House is located, it is proposed that a total of 40 dwellings could be provided. This is broken down into 30 on the ‘Paddock’ area, 5 on the former tennis courts and 5 east of Broom Close. (See map).

It is proposed that a further 5 dwellings be situated on the car park east of The Hayes at the Warwickshire Golf and Country Club.

This is a considerably lower number of dwellings than that fi rst proposed and is probably due to the representations made by our Parish Council and individual submissions sent in by residents.

Now approved, the Plan will be subject to a six week period of Public Consultation from 12th May and will then be submitted to the Secretary of State who will appoint an Inspector to conduct an Examination in Public later this year.

The Local Government Boundary Commission has instigated a review of Warwickshire County Council’s electoral arrangements as the Council’s electoral divisions are no longer within acceptable tolerances in terms of electoral equality. WCC has already recommended to the Commission a reduction of divisions (and councillors) to 57.

At an Extraordinary Meeting of Warwickshire County Council on 10th April, attended by 60 councillors including our own representative, Josie Compton, proposals were considered as to the geographical boundaries for these new divisions.

For the Warwick District area (including

Leek Wootton), a proposal was put forward by the Conservative group (Map 6) and another by the Liberal/Labour group (Map 7). Map 7 was approved in a 35-for to 25-against vote. This favoured an enlargement of the Kenilworth St. John’s division to include Leek Wootton.

After a one-and-half hour debate on all the proposals, those agreed for the various districts will now be put forward to the Commission for consideration.

If these proposals are approved, and taken in conjunction with the recent proposal for a change to our parish boundary (see Whisperer Issue 29), this is a further move towards our village of Leek Wootton becoming merely a suburb of Kenilworth.

ASK ALICEYour Agony Aunt Angel

Dear Alice, a proliferation of pole and lap dancing cubs have sprung up in our area recently and I’m sure this is why my boyfriend is out every night. When he fi nally does come round to see me, he is very tired and unresponsive, so much so that our love-life has virtually stopped, if you catch my drift. What can I do to get him interested in me again? Frustrated, Leek Wootton

Dear Kate, I have had several letters similar to yours over the past couple of weeks from both single and married women but I think the same solution applies to you all. What you have to do is beat them at their own ‘game’.

I advise a trip to the gym to get into shape and do a bit of practise. Then go and get some kit from our local Ann Summers shop in Leamington. Finally, ask a friendly local builder (contact me, I’ll give you Brian’s mobile number) to set-up a scaffold pole in the lounge/bedroom. Once he’s seen you performing, I’m sure his wandering days will be over (that’s your boyfriend not Brian).

Alice
