The meaning of Christ In the ancient Greek world, four causes were recognised - end, agent, matter and form. So, the end of marmalade was to be spread upon toast, the agent was the knife which cut the oranges, the matter was the oranges and the form was the result. In the middle ages two more causes were recognised: God’s creative power and exemplary causation. So St Richard of Chichester desired “to follow these more nearly”. Similar today is the idea of constitutive meaning, one’s horizon, what gives life meaning. Lent and Eastertide are there for us to appropriate the constitutive meaning of Christ. May we be helped through difficulties. May we come to the glory of the resurrection. There are vacancies on the committee with the opportunity for someone to get involved and help with the management and development of the Group. Over the years he has shown many groups round his garden in High Wycombe and in doing so has tried to tell them the stories behind the plants that he grows. These stories form the basis of his cruise lectures and a new book that he is writing. Do come along for what will be a fascinating talk about the plant hunters who by bringing back plants from all over the world transformed our gardens. Everyone welcome. Wendover Community Library More than forty volunteers came for a Tea Party at Wendover Community Library on Wed 27 February.

We were all welcomed by Philip Mitchell, chairman, and Susan Morton, Library Manager. This was followed by brief descriptions of the various volunteer tasks needed in the library.

These range from support work in the library itself, to help with children’s activities, help with our new Thursday Club - an informal meeting once a month with a short talk or activity, followed by tea and biscuits; fundraising events, publicity, opportunities for interested people in the community to be involved! We were pleased to meet everyone as we enjoyed our tea and cake and would like to thank all who came! We are delighted that so many signed up to become involved in a wide range of tasks.

If you are interested in being involved, do go and see Susan Morton in the library, or contact Carol Chapman on 01296 623730 for more information.

Want to Beat the Cowboys? Buy with Confidence was first launched in 1999 by Hampshire Trading Standards. It has grown over the years and is now administered by 53 local authorities, with more on the way. Buckinghamshire Trading Standards joined the nationwide scheme in 2008, and now has over 80 approved members, with more applications currently being progressed. The Buy with Confidence scheme provides consumers with a list of local businesses that have been vetted and approved by Trading Standards. Consumers can have peace of mind when using an approved member because they have all been individually checked for trustworthiness and compliance with consumer protection laws. Once a member has been approved, they are monitored through customer feedback. In the unlikely event of a problem arising, approved members abide with the Scheme’s Code of Practice, which defines the minimum standards required to deliver good customer service. If a resolution cannot be reached, Trading Standards can mediate between the two parties to find a suitable resolution. To find a business you can trust call 08454 0405 06 or visit www.buywithconfidence.gov.uk .

Applications to join the scheme start at £105.00 including VAT, plus DBS check (the CRB replacement) costs if required. Member benefits include the use of the Buy with Confidence logo on your website, paperwork and vehicles, a certificate and your businesses details being added to the national Buy with Confidence website. If you think your business could make the grade and would like more information, contact Gina Green at [email protected] or call 01296 382769.

Befriending the elderly Late last year we launched our local “Contact” group and have enjoyed several tea parties. A “Contact” group can consist of up to a maximum of twelve Guest Members. The Lee and Wendover group currently has availability for just four more members. To become a member the guests must be over 75 years of age, live on their own and reside within The Lee, Wendover or Great Missenden area.

“Contact the Elderly” (to give it its full title) is a national organisation consisting of small groups of local volunteers who host tea parties once a month for the older members of our community. The tea parties take place from 3pm to 5pm on the third Sunday of each month, our drivers fetch and carry the guests to and from their homes.

Anyone who has a neighbour, a friend or a relation who might like to join, they should contact Anthea Hartley on 01494 837372 or email [email protected]. We would be delighted to welcome new members. You can obtain further details by going to the Contact the Elderly’s web site: www.contact-the-elderly.org.uk .

The Elderly

News from Wendover Health Centre 01296 623452 Changes to Opening Hours We will be closed for Easter from 6.30pm on Thursday 28 March to 7:30am on Tuesday 2 April. We will close at 1pm on Wednesday 17 April for staff training.

Dr Anna Milward We welcome Dr Milward back on her return from Maternity Leave in April.

111 service The NHS 111 service has now been launched in Buckinghamshire. This service is for urgent medical help or advice, but not for life-threatening situations. Calls to the Health Centre are automatically diverted to 111 when we are closed.

111 is available for urgent problems 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Call 111 if you have an urgent health problem and think you need to go to A&E or need another NHS urgent care service (other than that available from the Health Centre).

For immediate, l i fe - threatening emergencies, continue to call 999.

When we are open we will always respond to urgent problems if you call the Health Centre directly (01296-623452) – press 9 immediately when you hear the automated message. A receptionist will take down initial details and pass the call to the Duty Doctor for response.

Payment for non-NHS work Our National Health Service contract covers the provision of medical services to the practice population. Other work is not funded by the NHS and therefore will normally attract a charge.

Unless the fees for non-NHS work are paid by a third party, we will request payment directly from the patient concerned. Examples are as follows: PSV and HGV driver medical

examinations.

Claim forms for private medical insurance.

Private sickness certificates.

Immigration medical reports and examinations.

Letters and notes certifying fitness to participate in certain activities.

Letters to education and housing authorities and other letters written at the patient’s request.

Forms for claiming on travel insurance when holidays are cancelled on medical grounds.

Automated BP machine We are very grateful to the Friends of Wendover Health Centre for purchasing an automated b lood pressure measurement machine. This is situated in the patient library and is for use by any of our patients (except children). It is very simple to use: please follow the written instructions. If you are due for a BP check (for example patients on anti-hypertensive medication) please use this machine – there is no need to book an appointment with a nurse. Please write your name on the printed slip with your BP reading and hand it into reception.

Judgment call As this is being written before the Judicial review announcement, you will know what happened on 15 March. Please check the website; we may need money urgently.

Momentum continues to build in the Northern sections with more start up meetings. David Cameron recently said that there was “no magic money tree” for infrastructure on rail and schools; one wonders where the “paving bill” for extra HS2 spending, rumoured mid 2013, has its roots. The Hybrid bill will be late 2013 at best and so not through before the next election. However, hybrids are not killed by elections, stakes maybe.

HS2 seems to be cancelling community forum meetings to focus on the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) draft consultation. Rumours are that the village will have a road show on 25 May. The final EIA needs to be part of the hybrid bill. We are afraid that once again, you’ll be asked to respond. There are still many local issues to resolve including the Ellesborough Road diversion.

If you are in A m e r s h a m , there is a new campaign shop in Hill Avenue, near the station. It will be worth dropping in to support them.

No 2 Pound Street wishes to say a very big Thank you …to all of you who responded to March 2013’s Wendover News where we asked what else you would like to see at No2… more wine, came the answer. And so we have set about sourcing new wines and many of these new additions are in the under £10 section. Pop in to see, ask for a recommendation, or try a taster or two.

…to all of the instigators and supporters of our loyalty scheme I Love Wendover. We have seen a huge number of shop visitors proudly sporting their cards, and benefiting from the 10% discount on all retail purchases. To show our gratitude, we are continuing the offer until the end of April.

…to our ‘Meet the Producers’ in March, who battled with rain and icy winds to bring their delicacies to Wendover, and then stood outside, albeit under our canopies to showcase their amazing products. Particular thanks to The Lawn Collection and Smoke & Pickle, who kept their sense of humour throughout. Come along to our regular slots on Saturdays 10am till 2pm to Meet our Producers.

…to our customers for raising £900 for Chilterns MS Centre during our Coffee for Charity collection on Mondays. We are now collecting for Wendover Youth Centre.

…to the Amersham Angels (new age WI) for making us so welcome at their meeting recently; we had a thoroughly cheesy evening and great fun was had by all. If you have a group you would like to entertain with cheese and/or wine, great for a fundraiser, please let us know, we would be happy to help either at No2 or at your own venue.

The Russell Arms Did you know the Russell Arms, Butlers Cross has been a pub since 1763, serving weary travellers and the local community great beer and food for 260 years? The tradition runs deep in the veins of Russell Arms as we promise to continue serving great beer and food. Recently accredited for the Great Country Pub initiative, we are proud and humbled to bring Russell Arms into its 260th year ~ perhaps there is the excuse for a party…… watch this space.

Russell Arms is a free house, which can bring you a fabulous range of beers, which keep on changing. On the pumps since the new year we have had our old favourites Chiltern Brewery, XT Brewery, Malt Brewery, Vale Brewery, Rebellion Brewery, Windsor & Eton, Cotswold Brewing Co and there will be more to come. Jon our Ale Man is never happier than when he is extolling the virtues of beer. If you are peckish you really should try the mid-week lunch-time offer – 2 courses for £12 and 3 courses for £16

For those sunny days the garden will be the perfect place to get your Vitamin D, and why not enjoy afternoon tea at the same time? Chef has created a very traditional afternoon tea menu to complement teas from The Lawn Collection, and you could even indulge in a glass of Rose Garden Prosecco ~ the menu is a pick’n’mix style, so you could choose the full menu, or a few items - available 3pm until 6pm daily.

All this talk of Afternoon Tea makes one think of cakes. Yummy delicious cakes. How about hosting your children’s birthday party at Russell Arms? Cake making and decorating parties for groups of 4 to 10. Please call or email for more information. See advert below.

Forum Veronica Stewart Photography Veronica Stewart is a family portrait photographer based in the beautiful setting of Buckland Village. Raised and educated in the West of Scotland, Veronica spent several years living and working overseas. She moved to Bucks from Hungary in 1999 and her two children attended all three schools in Wendover.

Veronica’s background is in Management Development and Training but on having her family, looked for something which would fit better with being a mum as her husband Graham, a geologist, travels extensively. She worked at Little Acorns Kindergarten in Wendover for a year and then spent a couple of years as a teaching assistant at John Hampden First School. She loved working with small children and wanted to marry her longstanding love of photography with this role.

Veronica returned to education and completed an HND in Photography and Digital Imaging at Bucks New Uni and then followed this with a BA (Hons) in the same discipline. Her work has appeared in The British Journal of Photography and she has been a contributor to two fine art exhibitions in London.

A purpose built studio means her clients come to her for family shoots, teenage parties, product photography and more. She currently volunteers as a photographer for Iain Rennie Hospice at many of their events.

For some little time the Parish Council has harboured the idea of creating a Community Orchard in a public space, where it can inform and be enjoyed by everyone in Wendover. In the time that the project has loosely been on the Council’s agenda a number of locations on parish land have been considered, none of which entirely fitted the bill. That was until Walnut Tree Meadow was suggested. The Meadow, as its name might suggest, was a former orchard of walnuts, of which only a handful of the ancient trees remain. This substantial area of public open ground is bounded by the Wendover Arm canal to the East, The Wendover Society’s Purssell Path and Right of Way to the north and the housing developments of Water Meadow Way and Bryants Acre to the west and south respectively. There is public access from all these aspects. The land came in to the ownership of AVDC following the settlement of the Metropolitan Green Belt boundary, not on the line of the canal but on a minor watercourse to the West of the Wendover Arm. This determination precluded the building of houses right up to the tow path. Since the estate developer now had no commercial interest in this isolated pocket of land on the edge of the Water Meadow Way Development it was settled on the District Council as part of the obligation to provide recreational space associated with the new dwellings. Since the completion of the housing, AVDC have maintained the land as a public space retaining the open nature of the meadow by rough cutting the grass on occasion throughout the year. The Parish Council sought permission from AVDC to establish a Community Orchard at its own expense by planting some sixty indigenous mixed top fruit trees in an

appropriate area of the meadow. Officers at our local authority did not react enthusiastically, raising a number of issues which the Parish considered it was able to satisfy.

When matters of costs associated with o n g o i n g maintenance were raised the Parish Council offered to take ownership of the m e a d o w a n d h e n c e f o r t h b e responsible for all costs associated with

looking after this public space absolving the District of any future financial liability. AVDC eventually chose to decline this offer stating that they would wish to retain ownership to maintain all their future options for this land! The Parish Council is rather disturbed by this response; it certainly would not wish to see the land put to any use other than as a community open space amenity. It is also very disappointed that its wish to create a Community Orchard would appear to be being thwarted, notwithstanding the Government’s recently declared support for country wide creation of community orchards by local residents. The Parish Council isn’t minded to give up on its aspiration without a better explanation of the local authority’s reluctance to help facilitate what seems to be a perfectly reasonable objective. It would like to know if this view is widely held within the community?

Peach Lane Studios You may have seen the BBC2 TV show “Alex Polizzi – The Fixer”. Peach Lane Studios (see advert below) or PeachyPics.net as they were previously known, were the stars of it on Tuesday 19 February this year.

Andrea and her family were followed by a film crew for over six months, watching how they grew as a business with the help of Alex Polizzi. The show had some great ideas on the do’s and don’ts of running a business, but what it didn’t show was the lovely personality of the family and how much they really put in to bringing great photography to their clients.

During the filming of the show they were given notice to leave their premises in Friars Square, Aylesbury, due to the imminent demolition of their unit. This lead to mum, Andrea, having to search out new premises. Whilst exploring the area, they all fell in love with Wendover where they found the perfect premises: the lovely building which formerly housed Palagan Travel. It has taken a lot of hard work, but Peach Lane Studios has finally opened its door for bookings.

From family portrait photography, makeovers and newborn photography, to commercial photography, you will not be disappointed. Visit their website or call in for a chat.

Bakers First Anniversary Enrique and Maria from The Bakers Shop are celebrating their first year in business in Wendover this month. They have been made to feel so welcome that they have joined Wendover Chamber of Trade and Commerce and are participating in the I Love Wendover Loyalty scheme (see page 2). For their anniversary special offer, please see their advert on the front page.

Friday 8 March saw Wendover Parish Council and The Wendover Society host a very successful fundraising quiz night at Wendover Memorial Hall. The event was held to raise money for the Clock Tower Restoration Project. 152 people made up 19 teams to contest the Clock Tower Challenge Quiz and everyone seemed to agree that it was a great night out. Even the Fish & Chip Supper, always tricky to get right for so many, was hailed as a success. Towards the close Cllr Tom Walsh thanked Cllr Robert Duggan for asking the questions and Rob Kenyon for keeping score. He also thanked everyone for coming out and not only supporting the event but also for demonstrating so clearly Wendover’s community engagement in this vital restoration project. The organisers will be able to add £2138.25 to the Parish Council’s fund for the restoration as a result of the quiz.

Many local traders donated prizes for the raffle or sponsored the rounds and Budgens were the event sponsor. Further details of the event, the project and our supporters can be found at www.wendoverclocktower.org.uk. In addition the Parish Council would like to thank Cllr Tom Walsh, Cllr Emma Carroll and Mike Beard of the Wendover Society for making this fun evening possible.

Wendover & District Rotary At the end of last year, many of you attended our Happy and Glorious, “Let The Chilterns Sing, Hooray for Heroes”, concert at St Mary’s Church with the Central Band of the Royal Air Force. Over £3,500 was raised and this, plus the donation of a Rotary District Grant, brought the final total to over £4,000.

Last month saw presentations of new reception furniture to the Chilterns MS Centre, a cheque for new folding chairs to match existing chairs at St Mary’s Church, Wendover and for Help for Heroes, a Matrix Krankcycle for use in T e d wo r t h H o u s e t o e x p e d i t e rehabilitation of returning soldiers, particularly amputees.

We would like to THANK all involved and hope that you will join us again this year, on Saturday 30 November for a ‘not to be missed’ family concert at St Mary’s. Put the date in your diary now!

Wendover Cricket Club Wendover Cricket Club have their final indoor senior nets session left on Friday 5 April, before outdoor training gets underway. U7 & U9s training will be on Saturday mornings starting on 6 April, the U11s on Thursdays with both

U12/13s and U14/15s being on Fridays and these begin on 11 and 12 April respectively. Existing members will be separately notified, but potential new recruits should contact Junior Manager Richard Peck on 01296-624209 for more information. 63 junior matches have been arranged across all age groups between the end of April and mid July, with more to follow. Most are in the Bucks and Aylesbury District Leagues and in the latter, we have entered 2 U9 teams for the expected numbers and to aid development. Senior matches will be played every weekend from 27 April through to 22 September, fielding 2 teams on Saturdays and one on Sundays. The 1st XI will compete in the Mid Bucks League Division 1 whilst the 2nd XI are in Division 2. In a break with the traditional format, these league matches are being played on a 40 overs win or lose basis, albeit with bonus points for the losing teams. Senior nets are likely to be on Friday evenings. The club will also compete in the Amersham Sixes Competition which we won last year, plus the midweek Mid Bucks League Knockout Cup. New members or officials in any capacity are welcomed and should contact Club Captain Jonathan Seabrook on 07718-804 084.

Mid Bucks Beekeeping Association April is a busy month for the Association as the beekeeping season gets underway. On 7 April we will be opening up our training Apiary ready for practical sessions with our new beekeepers.

On 13 April we will be at the Charity Market on the Manor Waste, and on 20 April we will be holding a “Woodwork” day, building and repairing hives for the new season. On 17 April Steve Benbow who is known as “the Urban Beekeeper” will be talking at our monthly meeting at the Bowls Club. For further information on all of these activities please go to www.mbbka.org.uk.

Wendover Tennis & Squash With our Squash and Racketball Finals day on 27 April the preliminary rounds of the tournament are well under way. With membership numbers at a recent high there has been a strong entry from Juniors through to Seniors in both disciplines. Recent work on the clubhouse including internal lighting and external décor is now complete, giving the club a fresh feel. Summer term Junior courses commence on 15 April, so for all details check our website: www.wendovertennisandsquash.co.uk.

Mad Hatter’s Hike and Tea Party 1st Wendover Apollo Scouts have been working on the Community Badge over the past term and as part of this had to find out about the work of a local charity and do something to assist.

You maybe aware that the Pace Centre has taken over the Old Garage at Stoke Mandeville, which over the next few years will be developed to accommodate all the Pace centres operations in the Aylesbury area. So this appeared to be a logical choice.

After a talk from Victoria at the Pace centre, all about the work done for the young people they look after, a plan was hatched to raise funds by holding a Mad Hatter’s hike and tea party.

So Saturday 2 March saw 50 scouts walk a route that took them through Weston Turville, Butlers Cross, Ellesborough and around Coombe Hill back to Wendover whilst collecting parts of a mosaic.

Awaiting the scouts upon return the HQ had been transformed into a Tea Party by a group of parents and leaders. The scouts were treated to sandwiches, cup cakes and multi-coloured jellies.

Despite the mud and the loss of a few shoes the scouts all had a great day and even improved their map reading skills. The hike raised £250.00 for Pace. To find out more about the work of the Pace centre please visit http://www.thepacecentre.org/

Silver medal My mother has given me a silver medal which was presented to her father and is inscribed 'Box Carrying Competition, Scrubwood to Wendover, won by James Hill 1905'. I have been unable to find any information regarding this and wondered if any readers may be able to help?

Frog Spawn Does anyone in Wendover have any spare frog spawn that they could let me have? Every spring for many years I have looked forward to seeing mating frogs in my pond. But this year there are none.

Thank you Please could you relay my grateful thanks to the person who kindly handed in my car and house keys to Wendover Police Station recently; they saved me a lot of worry and money. I managed to drop them in the thick snow somewhere between Wyevale Garden Centre and Castle Park. I was very surprised when the policemen in Wendover offered me a bowlful of keys which no-one had claimed and told me that they had a bin full of keys in Aylesbury Police Station. Perhaps people should have more faith in the kindness of others and go and check. Would it be possible for Wendover News to run a "Lost

and Found" column as I have handed in numerous things to the Police before now?

Lorraine James Ed: Wendover News has had great success on its Facebook reuniting objects with owners and may start a trial of this idea in the May print edition.

Wonderful Wendover For my daughter’s 18th Birthday we chose to give her driving lessons; hardly something easily gift-wrapped! I went in to Cornelli who came up with fun cupcakes and a helium balloon. I then went to the library and attempted to make a poster as the “gift” to unwrap. I am not very computer literate, but one of the kind members of staff offered to help me and we came up with the perfect poster. I popped in to the Flower Gallery who got out their coloured cellophane and “wrapped” the poster so beautifully. Thank you so much to all of these Wendover businesses who made my and my daughter’s day so special. Jane Taylor

You write To the bigot who hit me I would like to apologize for not having the courage to stand still waiting for your third and fourth attempts to hit me with your shovel at the allotments. The first two blows really hurt and I was still trying to make up my mind on the correct course of response to the torrent of foreigner bashing bigotry you were vomiting. Last time you did that was my daughter’s first experience of anti-Semitism - in Wendover for crying out loud! If you remember I told you then that I forgave you. This time I put my hand out to shake peace; but you not only refused but also threatened to decapitate me with the shovel. I would like to thank you for helping me make up my mind on an important issue. I expect that the extreme nationalist parties will try and increase their share of votes at the coming elections for the County Council banking on protest voting. My dilemma was that I like and respect Councillor Bowles and I think he can do a much better job as a county councillor than the current one; but I am a Lib-Dem through and through. Thanks to you I realised that voting for him will be also a vote against the forces of darkness – the BNP and UKIP. You reminded me that nationalist movements such as the Fascists and the Nazis never got the support of the majority but got to power through manipulating the system, bullying people into silence, and general apathy. May the force be with Steve Bowles.

John Colet News

Year 10 Team Maths Challenge The 2013 Year Ten Team Maths Challenge was held at Mandeville School. The John Colet team members: Daniel Curtis, Nathan Gray, Hannah Griffiths and Oliver Marcetta had all prepared themselves well for the mental battle and yet on arrival they could not help but feel intimidated by the eight opposing teams. The competition was conducted over several rounds and demanded a whole team as well as an individual approach to some very novel and challenging puzzles. Being good at maths was essential and manipulating algebra and the absolute value, using Pythagoras theorem and tackling fractions all had to be addressed in turn. Thinking laterally was required in many of the problems. By the fourth round John Colet did not get a mention in the first four places. Undaunted, the team made a huge effort in the final rounds. The last of these was a manic carousel round where no verbal communication was allowed but all candidates could tackle any of the five problem strands in rotation. Paper flew constantly around the table in the effort to complete the tasks. When final positions were announced Chesham Grammar School had won, Aylesbury Grammar School was second and John Colet had come a magnificent third! This was the best result to date in team maths competitions and laid a very important marker for future years. Well done team!

Colin Riley met Diana in the first week of Medical School at University College Hospital in 1948. They qualified in 1953 and became House Officers at UCH during which time they never left the hospital but were on call 24 hours every day. They married in 1954. Colin had an extra qualification in Obstetrics and Gynaecology so was posted to PM RAF Hospital Halton as a specialist where he ran the obstetric unit for three years, delivering many babies and operating on both local service dependants and civilians. He entered General Practice and did one year GP Training at Princes Risborough qualifying for his MRCGP. He was invited to join Drs Orme and McConnel in their practice in Wendover, (Dr McConnel being Dr Rory Reed’s grandfather!) Diana worked at Halton Sick Quarters in between having children, alongside the delightful Dr Hussey, who was with Shackleton on the Antartic Expedition. In 1964 Dr Orme retired, and sadly Dr McConnel fell ill and could no longer work. They bought The Red House which seemed enormous and far too expensive and moved in May and

happily were joined by Tony Garrod, and later, Dr Ballantine. In 1965 the District Council arrived with chainsaws to cut down the trees along the road so they could turn the area into a car park. Dr Riley persuaded them that the trees belonged to the Lord of the Manor and they had no right to chop them down. Thus was born the Wendover Society. At that time Dr Riley was very involved with the PCC in helping organise the Stewardship Scheme raising funds for the St Mary’s Church Maintenance programme and was also on the local NHS committee and was able to apply for one of the new Health Centres, as they were desperate for space. They moved in on 1 April 1973 and were joined by Dr Richard Leeper. Diana meanwhile, having a few more children, studied for and obtained higher degrees in Psychiatry and was able to accept Consultancy posts at Stone, (later Tindal), High Wycombe and UCH. The Rileys started the Youth Club in the early seventies and Diana became the

first President, originally at the Memorial Hall, and later at the “Shed”, on the school campus. By 1986 a new purpose built Centre on the campus was a welcome and valued addition. Since retirement Dr Riley has helped run the Friends of Wendover Health Centre, and is a trustee for St Anne’s Hall

h a v in g b e e n i n v o l v e d i n i t s refurbishment, while still organising the Village collection for Lifeboats due this year in mid April, and has been busy as the President of the Youth Centre as well. He is most grateful to the Lionel Able Smith Trust and the Parish Council together with great support from many groups and individuals, for their financial support for the Youth Club. He is also involved with the new fund raising group for the Iain Rennie Hospice in the Home to whom he feels he owes an enormous debt for helping look after Diana during her illness. Finally Dr Riley is honoured to have been elected as the new President of The Wendover Society and continues to enjoy life in this attractive and interesting village, supported by his wonderful and ever increasing family.

Parish Clerk It is with sadness that we must tell you that Jill Bottomley, who has served the Parish Council unstintingly over the past three years, has resigned as Clerk. We shall miss her and wish her well in her future endeavours.

Comment & Complaint We would ask anyone who has a comment or complaint about anything around the village to contact us to see if we can help or direct them to someone who can. It is disappointing to be called ‘They’ in a recent letter to the Wendover News as the Parish Council strives to do its best for the community. We can, however, only deal with things that are brought to our attention.

Clock Tower Quiz Our thanks to all the people who worked so hard to make the Quiz the success it was (see page 17). The unsung heroes raised over £2000 for the Clock Tower fund, part of which was the auction of three pieces of art generously given by local artists, Wendy Lewis, Carol Blyth and John Hull. The evening was such a success that it is hoped we shall run at least one other quiz this year to help the cause. We hope as many local organisations as possible will join in this very local fundraising. It is not so much

the amount donated as much as the taking part and the demonstration of community support. Any donation however small is of great value to the Fund.

Scoop it, Bag it and Bin it! Responsible dog owners know that,

"Scoop it, Bag it and Bin it" is the rule. Dog fouling in public areas poses a real threat to children through Toxocariasis, a horrible disease. Unfortunately not everyone is a "poop scooper". Please "Scoop it, Bag it and Bin it!" to avoid giving offence and to avoid committing an offence.
