April 2012
April is Quilt Show Month!
Thank you sooo much to everyone who is working hard to
bring our quilt show to Plaistow once again. Our fans depend
on us!! I made copies of the show flyer and gave them to
friends and family and they were happy to hear about it and
have put it on their calendars. I see a good group of ladies
made the folded fabric ribbons for the winners of the show and
again there will be a generous distribution of them. There are
many volunteers working on all the tasks involved in creating
this show. There will be many more volunteers (You!) working
the 2 days of the show to make it a success. Thank you one
and all!
Pretty soon I will be splitting my time between quilting and
gardening… maybe 70/30. How about you? Do you have a
floral or gardening quilt in your future? If you’ve finished one
recently, show it off and tell its story at the next Show and
Tell.

Paducah and Houston for her appliqué and hand quilting. She will do
a talk on The Evolution of a Quiltmaker and talk about design inspira-
tions from her award winning quilts. She will offer a Friday class on
hand quilting and a Saturday class on appliqué.

We had a BLAST! We traveled to Maine and visited three
quilt shops– of course, money was spent in each one.
Thanks to Gail Wozniak for arranging this yearly trip.
A very tired group departed from the bus in Haverhill!
ARE YOU A NEWCOMER? This is the last one and you can still participate in a
BLOCK RAFFLE = an opportunity to make just one block for a chance on winning
enough blocks to make a small quilt.
For $1 you receive a 9” x 11” piece of selected “theme” fabric, which must be used some-
where in a block created in any design/pattern you choose. You may make additional blocks
for additional chances to enter the raffle. Additional blocks must be in different patterns; that
is, no “sets” of the same pattern. Depending upon how many blocks are collected, the raffle
will have multiple winners.
Instructions for the final Block Raffle – Theme: SUMMERTIME
For each entry make a 9“ block (9 ½ “ unfinished)
Add fabrics to coordinate with the theme fabric colors
Please use quilt-shop quality fabric
Attach your name to each block entered
Theme fabric will be available at April and May meetings. All completed blocks will
be collected and winners drawn at the June meeting
Questions: contact Andrea Bursaw, 978-463-4034 or [email protected]
May – Lenore Crawford – www.lenorecrawford.com – She will talk about fusing and fabric
painting with quilts. She will do a Friday workshop on Mini Blended Fabric Collages and a
Saturday workshop on fusible flowers.
June – An end of year dessert social – with a talk from Pam Potter from NH Quilt Emporium
on what you can do with those jelly rolls, layer cakes, five inch squares etc.

80% to you and 20% to Guild -Sit for an hour or two at the table.

APRIL 27TH AND 28TH 9:00 TO 4:00 TIMBERLANE REGIONAL MIDDLE SCHOOL
CHALLENGE:
PLEASE MAKE YOUR QUILT “RESEMBLE” YOUR FAVORITE CARD, SO WE DO NOT INFRINGE ON COPY
RIGHT LAWS.
Replicate Your Favorite Greeting Card
Think of all the possibilities this could be – do you have a favorite Moth-er’s Day Card which has a lovely vase of flowers you want to replicate in fabric , did you just get a Halloween card that has the cutest idea on it, whatever think about these ideas and lots more possibilities. Make a trip to your favorite card shop and see all the ideas out there. The card has to be attached to the quilt when displayed
Please make it under 30 inches on any given size and a minimum of 12 inches on any side.
Donations Needed Still . . . for the Quilt Show’s Penny Raffle Baskets please! MV Quilters’ donations have been stel-lar in the past, and I’m hoping that the tradition will continue, BUT so far donations have been sparse. The good news is that we have plenty of empty baskets. Anything new in its original packaging would be appreciated. Perhaps you bought a pattern and decided it’s not your technique of choice, perhaps you own a business and would like to donate a gift certificate for your services, perhaps you bought a fat quarter bundle but several fabrics are leftover, perhaps you bought a zipper for a new purse but haven’t made it yet or the color choice has changed, perhaps you bought a charm pack but have decided that you need bigger hunks of fabric to accomplish your project , perhaps you bought a tool and now can do without it, perhaps you have an extra rotary cutting blade for a size cutter you no longer use, perhaps you have an extra spool of thread, and so on. In the past members have donated entire baskets filled with goodies. Wonderful! All dona-tions will be appreciated. There will be a collection area at the next Guild meeting to accept whatever you have to offer. Commercial sources have also been contacted for donations which are trickling in. If you have any questions, please contact me. In the meantime, many thanks for your help! Adeline Rieger, Penny Baskets Raffle, 2001 MVQ Quilt Show, 978-475-0370, [email protected]
I am asking for donations of bottled water and canned soft drinks for the Quilt Show. If
you would like to bring your donation to either the March or April Guild meeting, I will be
happy to take it from your car and I will store it and then bring all the donations to the
Quilt Show myself. Let me know when you arrive that you have it and I will make the
transfer either before or after the meeting. This will allow me to determine what, if any-
thing, I will need to have the guild purchase, and hopefully, it alleviates the heaving lifting
for you. Your donations are VERY much appreciated!!
