    Ohio County Local Coordinating Committee

    Citizens for a Drug Free Community

    April 9, 2012

    Attendees: Brandon Bogue, Gary Eldridge, Janie Eldridge, Kara Hudepohl, Amber Johnson, Tina Keller,Elissa Pogue, Jascia Robinson, Laura Rolf, Debbie Thomason, Debbie Marsh-Niccum, Tom McKay, DebRanz

    Deborah Thomason called the meeting to order.

    Minutes

    There were no minutes from March to approve because there was no quorum of officers. Laura Rolf madea motion to approve the minutes from February and a second was made by Janie Eldridge. Motion carried.

    Treasurers Report

    Gary Eldridge reported that the Drug Free Fund had a total of $20,130.59 as of December 31 st andRevenues have been added of $2,320 ($500 of which was a grant from the Ohio County CommunityFoundation). The only expenses was the $500 grant for Monte Stiles. The current balance is $21,950.59.

    A motion was made by Amber Johnson to approve the Treasurers report. Deb Ranz seconded the motion.Motion carried.

    .Youth Report

    No one from the schools was present. President Debbie Thomason did announce that the school had sentinformation regarding the Drug Free signs at the ballparks. The Citizens for a Drug Free Ohio County hassigns in two ball parks and the school and community now has three ball parks. The cost of renewal of thetwo signs is $100 each and a new sign would be $300. These signs help keep our Drug Free Councilname in the public. The signs do include our website address.

    A motion was made by Gary Eldridge to approve a claim of $500 to renew the two existing signs and toadd a third sign for the ball parks. Tom McKay seconded the motion. The motion carried.

    In the matter of advertising, Debbie Thomason stated that she recently purchased on ad which is onplacemats used at a local restaurant Jacks Place. The cost of having the ad on the placemats was only$150 for the entire year. Another way we may want to consider advertising our monthly meetings for nextyear. The ads are renewed each year in March.

    Old Business

    President Debbie Thomason announced that the grant checks would be ready next week and would bemailed out to each entity.

    State Business

    Debbie Thomason stated that she believes there is confusion as to the start and finish times of the DrugFree Annual Report. Currently our report is due in October, yet we dont approve grants until December.

    She will be talking with the State to try and iron out exactly what dates should be used and if the DrugFree Council needs to change their policies as to when grants are due.

    Announcements

    Laura Rolf told the council that they are looking for a summer date, possibly a Saturday to have theLifestyle Risk Reduction seminar in Rising Sun. The hope is that having the seminar in the summer mayallow teachers to be involved in the training.

    ASAP Center in Cincinnati is doing some research with regard to drug abuse in our area. Once all the datais retrieved they would like possible present the findings at one of the Drug Free meeting.

    Tom McKay with the Special Crimes Unit stated that a grant request had been submitted to the IndianaCriminal Justice Institute. The Ohio County Citizens for Drug Free had written a letter in suppor of thisgrant request. However, he had received word that they did not receive the grant. The grant was to helpidentify and help drug endangered children. The Special Crimes Unit still believe this is an area inwhich still needs to be addressed.

    McKay also announced that the Special Crimes unit has hired a new detective who is assigned to identifyand address internet crimes against youth. McKay stated that since this area is so broad they will benarrowing their focus for this detective.

    Laura Rolf announced that Big Brothers/Big Sisters were able to raised over $8,000 in their Bowl for KidsSake in March. She also stated that she has a 21 year old who has applied to be a big sister in OhioCounty.

    SIEOC Prevent Child Abuse & Neglect Conference is Saturday, April 21st from 8:00 a.m. till 2:30 p.m.The conference will be held at Ivy Tech in Lawrenceburg, Indiana.

    After-Prom Committee is still needed volunteers and donations of pop. The After-Prom begins at 11:00on May 5th and will go till 4:00 in the morning.

    A motion was made by Gary Eldridge to adjourn. Motion seconded by Tom McKay. Motion carried.
