April is Squires Month
The Columbian Squires mark their 87th birthday thismonth. The official youth organization of the Knights ofColumbus was established on April 4,1925. Urge councilsthat sponsor Squires circles to cel-ebrate by honoring theirSquires in a special way. Theymight hold a special SquiresRecognition Program. They shouldalso invite 18-year-old Squires tojoin the Knights of Columbus andhold a special First Degree for them. Remind all yourcouncils that by successfully organizing and supporting aSquires circle, they fill all requirements on the youth ac-tivity category of the Columbian Award Application Form(#SP7).
Also, encourage the Squires circles in your district toapply for the three major awards programs for which theymight qualify. A circle earns the Corps d’Elite Award if ithas: submitted an “Officers, Chairmen and CounselorsReport” (#468); reported at least four major activities ineach program area; paid per capita taxes on time; com-pleted and submitted “Annual Survey of Fraternal Activ-

Knights in Shining Armor
Convincing a man to join the Knights of Columbus isthe first step. The next is help him become an active andproductive member of the Order; helping him to becomea Knight in shining armor. A good way to make that hap-pen is for him to participate in the Shining Armor pro-gram. To qualify, during his first year of membership thenew member must:

World Day of Prayer for Vocations and RSVP
On Sunday, April 29, councils throughout the Order willcelebrate World Day of Prayer for Vocations. It is an op-portunity for all Knights to raise awareness of the needfor men and women to say "yes" to their vocations, espe-cially if one is called to the priesthood or religious life. There is still time for your councils to plan a program topromote vocations. Materials, including a DVD, are avail-able from the Supply Department.
It is also an excellent opportunity to urge your councilsto get involved in another featured program of the Order, the Knights of Columbus Refund Support Vocations Pro-gram (RSVP). Through RSVP, councils, assemblies andSquires circles “adopt” one or more seminarians or postu-lants and provide them with moral and financial support. In the program Knights write letters to students, sponsordinners for them, invite them to council events and, mostimportantly, pray for vocations. They also provide their“adopted vocation” with financial assistance.
Qualifying councils and assemblies receive a $100 re-fund for every $500 donated, up to a limit of $2,000 per to
an individual supported. The refund for Squires is $20 forevery $100 donated. In the Philippines and Mexico, councils and assemblies receive the equivalent in localcurrency of $50 for every $250 donated. Any councilmeeting RSVP requirements for supporting at least oneseminarian or postulant meets all four requirements ofthe Church activity category of the Columbian Award Ap-plication Form (#SP7). Visit kofc.org/vocations for full de-tails.
