The Canadian Task Force on Preventive Health Care concludesthat there is fair evidence to recommend screeningpostmenopausal women to prevent fragility fractures (no orlow trauma fractures) (grade B recommendation). Althoughthere is no direct evidence that screening reduces fractures, there is good evidence that screening is effective in identifyingpostmenopausal women with low bone mineral density andthat treating osteoporosis can reduce the risk of fractures inthis population (grade A recommendation).
