“My Lord what a morning,

My Lord what a morning,

Oh my Lord what a morning,

When the stars began to fall.”

I heard the Hungarian Bar-tok Choir sing this spiritual at their concert a few weeks ago. What a beautiful sound came from the heart and soul of those 40 male voices. It was one of those moments when you are lifted emotionally out of

the very place you are seated.I have been awestruck by

the beautiful sunrises lately. The color of the morning is as bright and majestic as I would imagine heaven to be. God the Creator sings that spiritual song to us each day and the choir was giving thanks and honor to the Designer and Dis-player of His marvelous work.

Even greater still is the new morning of Easter. My Lord

what a morning when the dark-ness of Friday, the death on the cross for the sins of all human-ity, began to fall. It is still the most spectacular of all days in the entire history of humanity – second to none. We will cel-ebrate Christ’s victory on Sun-day, April 4, 2010 at 7:00, 8:45, 10:00 and 11:15 A.M.

And finally, the spiritual is a reminder of the promised resurrection into eternity. We

remember with hope those who have died in the faith and live with the great and glorious morning of eternity.

My Lord what a morning! My Lord what a promise! My Lord what love is given in the crucified and risen Savior!

Thanks be to God,

March Madness is not entirely confined to college hoops. No, in fact, through the Augs-burg Community Church Youth League (ACCYL) the madness of basketball happened right here at RLC. From January through February two high school guys teams and one high school girls’ teams “hooped it up” for the ACCYL play-

ing other church teams from all over the Twin Cities. All of our teams had a great season. In the tournament, RLC 11th and 12th grade guys’ team made it to the semi-finals, the 9th and 10th grade guys’ team won their bracket (after winning no games the entire year!), and the girls’ team took 3rd place by winning their tournament game! Of course, our league was as much about faith as it was about basketball. They prayed together, built last-

ing relationships, and read devotionals before every game. Praise God for basketball! Con-gratulations on a great season to everyone who participated.

ChinEsE-aMEriCan FriEndship MEalsaTurday, apr i l 17, 5:30 - 8 :30 p.M.

Are you interested in a cross–cultural experience right here in St. Paul? Did you know that the University of Minnesota has more students from the People’s Republic of China than any oth-er university in the United States?

On Saturday night, April 17, 2010, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., join Chi-nese students and their families and share Christ’s love through hospitality by helping to co-host a Chinese-American Friendship Meal. This is a fine example of RLC’s stated mission to “reach out to others through ministry-based programs…to promote…service within our church, community, and the world.”

These Friendship Meals are held monthly at the Hospitality Center for Chinese located in the China Place building, 1407 Cleveland Avenue North, across from the University of Minneso-ta’s Saint Paul campus. Roseville Lutheran has been co-hosting this event once a year for the past fifteen years. Over 100 RLC families have participated during this period.

This year we will be working with Faith Lutheran Forest Lake. Bring a dish to share, help set up, serve, and enjoy eating and chatting at a potluck supper with Chinese students, scholars, and their families. If you are not able to attend the event, you may still support this outreach ministry by providing a food donation for the potluck. You may sign up at the Welcome Desk in Luther Commons.

For more information, contact Kären Dudley at 651-489-7243 or Janice Walker at 651-645-3033. For more information about the Hospitality Center for Chinese, go to www.hcchinese.org. On Sunday April 11th, Jennifer Gerth, executive director of the Hos-pitality Center, will be at RLC for a 10:10 presentation on the organization’s work with these students.

2010 BuildErs Group: rEnoVaTinG rooMs - rEnoVaTinG liVEs in MarTin sloVakia!

The Martin Lutheran Elementary School kids for next fall’s 1st grade class are in need of a place to learn. An adjacent build-ing to the Bible School needs renovating for 2 classrooms and there are only 60 days to make that happen (July 1 - Sept. 2). THE KIDS NEED YOU!

The 2010 Builders Group has a EXCITING and ENERGETIC project in Martin, Slovakia this year and are in need of every-one to “come along” on this year’s TWO mission trips! Is GOD calling you to take that leap of faith to join Joe, KJ and Denny and the many others who have made the trip the past 7 years? Or is God tugging at your heart to sponsor a student or contrib-ute toward the operation of the Bible School? And, of course, with this year’s ambitious project, funding is needed for sup-plies and furnishings for renovating the classrooms (payable to RLC, memo=Builders Group). At least 2 classrooms need to be completed by September 2, 2010 with 4 more classrooms being needed the next year! The project costs are projected to be in excess of $35,000!

In order to get the cheapest GROUP RATE, each of the two trips needs at least 10 people. The dates of these two trips are being finalized as this newsletter goes to press, but the tentative dates for the TWO trips are July 27-Aug 11 and Oct. 8-29. If you are interested in getting the latest info on the Builders Group, please get your name and e-mail (or street) address to KJ Olson at [email protected] or call at 651-636-6842. Questions can be routed to either KJ or Denny Olander at [email protected]. Down payment of $200 for the July - August trip will be due in April. Can the kids count on you to get two new classrooms by September 2?? LET’S DO IT!

For My ThouGhTs arE noT your ThouGhTs...a lE T TEr FroM rlC suMMEr inTErn, E va JanoTová

Dear friends, I would like to tell you some news about me. So, what happened after I left Roseville? I remember how I sat in the plane in Minneapolis after a heartbreaking farewell with KJ and all of you, my friends. I sat there and was so happy and so thank-ful to God for everything. I told God and wrote in my diary: “I will trust You in whatever will come in my life. I will trust you!”

After some hours I successfully came home to Slovakia. Sur-prisingly, it was a little difficult to get used to home (everything was so small). Finally, I did use, and was keen to use everything I learned during the summer. I wanted to start a lot of new things at church and at school, be active and run, run, run.

But God had different plans for me. My broken leg didn’t heal well. I had to slow down again, be patient and most of all trust

Christian life God. I had to be on crutches again, no weight bearing on my leg and a long time to wait for a possible surgery. I had to have an individu-al plan at school and I couldn’t do most of the things I so very much wanted to do.

It wasn’t an easy time, in fact, it was a hard time. I can’t imagine it without God and the wonderful friends He gave me. I learned that “trusting God” is not a one time action (like going to America for a summer) but trusting God is a process that takes up your whole life. I experienced a semester of miracles not only at school but also everywhere around. There was always somebody who helped me and said something supportive (or better - almost).

After all, a great thing happened. I didn’t have to have surgery which was really a miracle for me. Thanks to our God! Thanks also to you for your prayers, support and get-well cards. Also because of these things it was easier.

Who knows what for but I believe it’s good for something. As Romans 8:28 says, ”We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Because, “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than yours ways and my thoughts than your thoughts,” Isaiah 55:9.

The handbell program at RLC began 26 years ago in 1984. Each Wednesday eve-ning from September through April, about 25 ringers faith-fully meet to rehearse music to play for the worship services. Currently we have two choirs: The Bells of Praise and Jubi-late. Our leader, Lori Haaland,

has been directing the choirs since the beginning. Each year during the last weekend in April we participate in what we call “Bell

Weekend”. This weekend is a special time for us as we play all of the non-liturgi-cal music during the services from prelude through the postlude. It is especially meaningful to be able to play along with the organ, brass and the singing congre-gation during the hymns. We love making music with our bells, and find it to be an extraordinary way to enhance the worship service. Since the beginnings of time bells have rung to call people together and to praise God for all of his won-derful blessings!

That might be a good slogan for the Olympics, but not for a marriage! A Lutheran Encounter Weekend shows couples how to be straightforward and honest in their communication, thus building a foundation for the kind of trust and love every marriage deserves. A Lutheran Marriage Encounter weekend includes two nights in a comfortable hotel and five meals from Friday at 7:00 p.m. to Sunday at 5:00 p.m. Four presenting couples, including a Lutheran cler-gy couple, give a series of presentations followed by questions the couples dis-cuss in the privacy of their hotel room. Sponsorships for the FUNdraiser include: A tee or green sponsor sign ($150); a business team sponsorship, which includes four golfers and a tee or green spon-sor sign ($750); and a corporate level ($2,500) sponsorship for area businesses and organizations.

Your attendance will help keep miracles happening in Martin with the 216 chil-dren in grades one through six attending the Lutheran Elementary School. Please join us on Monday, May 17, for this wonderful time of fun and fellowship. Contact Dianne Nash (651-762-9141) at St. Andrew’s to register.

By the time you read this, the mission proj-ect “Having a Heart for Haiti” will be done. The health kits will be assembled and delivered to Lutheran World Relief for delivery to Haiti and distribution to the millions of Haitian people in need. The Kick-Off on March 7th in the Activ-ity Center united many ages to hear guests from Haiti tell of the country and culture of Haiti. They told of family members that were affected by the earthquake and of their joy they have In know-ing that so many want to help. The kids were reassured that no matter how small their hands, their help is appreciated. It was inspiring to see high school and middle school youth together with kindergarten and 1st graders with the same compassion and concern for others.

Children’s ministry

Cornerstone 3-year-olds through 5th grad-ers, together with middle and high school youth worked together with one goal, under Jesus’ direction “The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’” - Matthew 25:40

Thanks to your generosity, we were able to collect towels, soap, and other toiletries to bun-dle together.

Our project is over, but it is only the begin-ning of many months of rebuilding and recon-structing lives for the people of Haiti. Let’s keep them in our prayers and continue to help them as the weeks and months go by.
