Regional Support & Engagement
• First Nations, Métis Chartered Communities, Friendship Centres invited to apply to host: community-based youth sport camps, coaching certification courses, and officials training – application intake each season
• Regional Coordinators work closely with Coordinating Group to support Regional Action Plans focused on priority sports and other core initiatives
• Coordinators engage with the host community and the PSOs/MSOs to develop, plan and deliver

Aboriginal RunWalk is designed to help participants gradually build fitness levels and increase their endurance in preparation for a 5K or 10K running or walking event
• 13 - 21 week program
• Delivered from January to June
• Online leadership support
• Some 5K or 10K community events coincidewith National Aboriginal Day
Health Beat
Health Beat is a participant health screening program that accompanies the AHLA programs
Pre and post participant screening involves:
• Total Cholesterol, blood glucose,
• Blood pressure, height, weight, waist girth
• Risk assessment for heart disease
• 6 minute aerobic fitness test
• Goal setting
Increased Physical Activity Healthy Eating
• Hiking• Boxing • Snow-shoeing • Weekly recreation nights
• Traditional cooking classes • Top-chef challenge • Creating a community
cookbook
Respecting Tobacco Healthy Pregnancies
• Planting a sacred tobacco garden
• Run to Quit program • “Kick the Nic”
• Yoga for pregnancy• Expectant-mom weekly circle

Re-Think Your Drink
Initiative started with Island Health after a consultation with Vancouver Island Elders frustrated with sugary drink consumption amongst youth
• Now a regional initiative
• Touring the province: RTS, GOVElders Gathering, NAD events
• Adopted into AHLA programs
• Fir Tip Lemonade, Nettle Mint Tea, Iced Berry Tea
Anyone + Anywhere + Anytime
Reducing barriers and increasing physical activity in communities across the province:
• Low or no cost
• Fun
• Family friendly…all ages… all abilities!
• All fitness levels
• Scalable to any size
• No specialized facilities or equipment
• Province-wide application process
• Minimum 20 trained each forum (12 New / 8 Return)
• 3-day Provincial Leader Training Forum
• Trained FitNation Leaders deliver community programs
• 8 weeks; 2-3 sessions per week
• $500.00 grant to support costs of program
N7 Move Moment
• GOV 2016 - March 21-24, Victoria, BC
• 1,500 youth delegates
First ever GOV - Nike N7 Move Moment involving over 900

Goal:“Increase participation levels of First Nations and Aboriginal peoples in sport, recreation and physical activity.”
Actions:“Support expansion of the Aboriginal Healthy Living Activities and promote cultural awareness and competency training to provincial sport organizations in order to involve more communities and schools in the design and delivery of community projects.”
Objectives:
“Build meaningful partnerships with First Nations and Aboriginal communities in order to understand their unique barriers and needs and to support the design and delivery of culturally relevant programs that promote healthy active lifestyles.”
