1935 – Hitler’s first major victory came when the Saar (an area of land taken off Germany by the ToV) voted to return to
German control.

14th March 1938 –The German army entered Austria triumphantly. Hitler immediately had his men round up 80,000 opponents of the union and
imprison them.
1938 –Then Hitler held a vote, his soldiers intimidating the Austrian voters.

September1938 –The British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain agreed to meet with Hitler at his mountain home,
Berchtesgaden (Eagle’s Nest).

September1938 –The ‘Munich conference’ is arranged and

Poland took over part of it and then the Slovaks demanded independence.

March 1939 –The Nazi tanks rolled into the Czech capital Prague unopposed. It is obvious that Poland is Hitler’s next
target. This was the end of Appeasement,
23rd August 1939 –The Nazis hold secret talks with the USSR and then announce the Nazi-Soviet pact. They had agreed to divide Poland between
them.
At the time people were shocked that these two enemies had made a
treaty. This cartoon reflects this shock!

Discussion Questions How did the U.S. policy change leading up

The Neutrality Act November 4, 1939 “Whereas the United States, desiring to
preserve its neutrality in wars between foreign states and desiring also to avoid involvement therein, voluntarily imposes upon its nationals by domestic regulation the restrictions set out in this joint resolution; and…”
The attack on Pearl Harbor happened on the morning of Sunday, December 7, 1941. It was a surprise attack form the Japanese navy that shocked the United States, to the point that they became part of WWll

There are a lot of reasons why the bombing at pearl harbor happened.

The United States was surprised about the attack and decided to join WWll. The attack also changed the way Americans saw the Japanese people. President Franklin D. Roosevelt said “It’s a date which will live in infamy.”
Fact!
The American government was aware of the attack. The Japanese people had given various warnings but the message did not get to Pearl Harbor on time and that was why the Americans were not prepared.
Where they really prepared?
Kamikaze: A member of a special corps in the Japanese air force charged with the suicidal mission of crashing an aircraft laden with explosives into an enemy target, esp. a warship.
