TheShip's motto?

'Never Forget'

Here SHE is, the USS New York!

It was built with 24 tons of scrap steel from the World Trade Center. Notice the twin towers. It is the fifth in a new class of warship - designed for missions that include special operations againstterrorists. It will carry a crew of 360 sailors and 700 combat-ready Marines to be deliveredashore by helicopters and assault craft.

Steel from the World Trade Center was melted down in a foundry in Amita, LA, to cast the ship’sBow section on September 9, 2003, ‘those big rough steelworkers treated it with total reverance,’Recalled Navy Capt. Kevin Wensing, who was there. ‘It was a spiritual moment for everybody there.’

Junior Chavers, foundry operations manager, said that when the Trade Center steel first arrived, he touchedit with his hand and the ‘hair on my neck stood up.’ ‘It had a big meaning to it for all of us,’ he said.

‘They knocked us down, They can’t keep us down. Were going to be back.’

60 hours in Cabo.

I hooked up with Staff Commodore Barrie Harnett (back from New Zealand)in Cabo San Lucas to get Cap’n Jake back in good fishing condition.

Alex and Sue Hasenclever drove down from their winter hideaway in La Paz to pick up some boat parts and otherprovenance from Cosco.

We lucked out with great weather for Opening Day. I attended 5 club openings and had everything from pigs in ablanket to Kaluha pig on a table.Don’t forget to mark your calendar for all the upcoming fun at the club and the cruises. Thanks Kim for a good job with the e-mails.

That’s all from me. Kent Andersson, Vice Commodore
