Flu-Less Student Short Film Competition 2018 Submission Guidelines

The Flu-less Films is a student short film competition as part of NSW Health’s 2018 Winter Flu campaign.

After an unprecedented flu season in 2017, it is important for all NSW citizens to be aware of the dangers of flu and how to minimise the spread of this serious disease. Students have the opportunity to add to their portfolio, protect their community and get their work in front of industry experts and the Minister for Health and Medical Research.

What you need to do • Create a 30 sec film based on the theme “Don’t spread the flu” • The film is to include the compulsory message “It’s in your hands”

Key Information • Winning videos will be launched in the 2018 NSW Health flu advertising campaign • Great opportunity to add a winning video to your portfolio • Submissions must meet the technical specifications and conditions of entry

Technical Specifications • Theme: Don’t spread the flu • Compulsory message: It’s in your hands • Length: 30 seconds • Films must be submitted in one of the following formats: MPEG4, MOV, AVI, MPEGPS, WMV,

FLV files • Films must be standard resolution 1920 wide x 1080 high pixels, 16:9 aspect ratio • All entries must complete the entry form and submit your film via a file transfer program i.e.

yousendit, wetransfer to [email protected] • Must be original material • Must include NSW Government end frame with flu messaging • All films need to be consistent with the mission and priorities of NSW Health. Therefore films

will not be accepted that include tobacco, alcohol or any products that could damage health.

Technical production

Cinematography - is the camera steady and are the shots framed and focused? Editing - Does the editing help to clarify the story and enhance the pacing and flow of the story? Are transitions smooth and well-paced or distracting? Audio, music, sound effects - Does the audio and soundtrack complement the story?

Conditions of Entry 1. Entries will be accepted from 16 April until 4 May 2018. 2. Entries are to be submitted via the electronic form and the film via file transfer to MOH-

[email protected]. 3. Must be original material 4. Entries must be carefully checked for accuracy and compliance with the Technical

Requirements and Conditions of Entry. 5. Entries will be assessed by a judging panel, the decisions of which are final. No

correspondence or discussion will be entered into. 6. Submissions that do not comply substantially with entry requirements or are not sufficiently

relevant may not be judged – judges’ discretion will be final. 7. Submissions must adhere strictly to the time limit of 30 seconds. Applications which exceed the

time limit will not be judged. 8. The competition is open ONLY to current students in New South Wales. 9. Films may only use authorised content including music, images, film clips, and other

intellectual property. Entrant confirms and warrants required legal authority to submit the entry into the competition and to use all music, images, and content in the entry. You must submit this copyright permission at the same time you submit your film entry.

10. Films must be appropriate for viewing by the general public (No profanity or vulgarity). 11. All films need to be consistent with the mission and priorities of NSW Health. Therefore films

will not be accepted that include tobacco, alcohol or any products that could damage health. 12. Copyright: All entries submitted to the 2018 NSW Flu-Films assign copyright ownership to the

NSW Ministry of Health. The work may be published, used for promotional material, media interviews or as models to support policy development.
