Our Digital Applications Advanced Modern apprenticeship programme combines high-quality classroom training with on-the-job experience develop your ability to confidently use digital applications in the workplace.

Whether it’s Microsoft Office, database systems, finance systems, web systems or any other digital application, our programme will give you the essential skills so you can understand how a system works and how to use it.

Programme duration

12-18 months

Approximately 6% of training takes place in a QA classroom and the remaining 94% will be completed in the workplace.

What qualifications will I gain?

• SQA SCQF6 Diploma in Digital Applications Support (equivalent to working at Higher and National Certificate level)

• SQA SCQF6 PC Passport

Entry requirements

• You are aged 16-24• You are passionate about a career in IT• You have 5 Standard Grades (Level 1 - 3) OR 5 National Level 5 Grades - both

How is the programme structured?

The programme is made up of two components, ensuring you have a rounded, in-depth understanding of digital applications and how to use them.

• Classroom sessions – delivered in an Ofsted-‘Outstanding’ teaching environment at a local QA learning centre.

• Workplace learning – delivered on-site and assessed by a QA assessor.

Your QA Assessor will support you throughout your programme providing you with a single point of contact for any questions or help you need - including help developing your portfolio, adjusting to the world of work, and expert advice around the government’s Prevent Agenda and Safeguarding.

• Understand and configure word processing applications, spreadsheet applications, presentation applications and database applications.

Office Systems User On this module you will:

• Learn the fundamentals of network design and implementation.• Understand how to configure the best performance for common systems

and applications.

Creative Business Skills On this module you will:

• Understand how to use image software and video software.• Understand how to configure and implement graphic design and video

design tools.

Creative Content SkillsOn this module you will:

• Understand how to use website software.• Learn and know how to input software design fundamentals.• Understand the basics of web development using a content management

system (CMS).• Understand and create front-end website content.

WORKPLACE MODULES

SUPPORT FROM DAY ONEA dedicated resourcer will be your point of contact when you first apply. They will give you all the information you need to know and will spend time getting to know you and your interests to make sure they match you up with the right role.

Once you have started your apprenticeship, a QA Assessor will visit you every 6-8 weeks to guide you through your apprenticeship plan, help you with your workplace modules, teach you about the workplace environment and provide feedback for each module. They will also be there as your point of contact for any questions or help you need — such as adjusting to the world of work, or help balancing your studies with work activity.

You will also meet a number of QA Tutors who are knowledge experts in their subject areas and will be delivering the theoretical/competency side of your apprenticeship programme in our QA training centres. They are on-hand to prepare you for assessments, mark them and provide you with feedback — supporting you for the end point assessment of your apprenticeship which will be a project and an interview.

Our team will also support you with:

• Managing your finances• Updating your CV• Applying for council housing, rents and mortgages• Dealing with relationship problems

Workplace modules will help build on the knowledge learnt in the classroom, allowing you to apply your new skills. Below is a list of modules you will complete in the workplace.

Developing Personal and Team Effectiveness Using IT 3On this module you will:

• Develop own personal and professional skills and work as a member of a team.• Understand what is meant by professional practice.• Understand what the ethical and legislative environment relating to IT activities.

Health and Safety in IT and TelecomsOn this module you will:

• Identify relevant organisational Health and Safety procedures.• Identify available sources of Health and Safety information.• Demonstrate how relevant Health and Safety procedures have been followed.

Understanding the Potential of IT 3 On this module you will:

• Understand the technical architecture of an IT or Telecoms system.• Understand the expected functionality and capacity of the system.

Digital Information ManagementOn this module you will:

• Manage and follow IT policies and procedures.• Understand and comply with legislation such as the Data Protection Act 1998.

Digital CommunicationsOn this module you will:

• Understand the potential of electronic calendar management and mail boxes.• Use financial systems and stock control systems effectively.• Follow internal procedures to use bespoke organisational systems effectively.

Digital Network EnvironmentsOn this module you will:

• Learn the fundamentals of network design and implementation.

Optimise IT System Performance 3On this module you will:

• Understand how to configure the optimum performance for common systems and applications.
