Appreciating Mothers Dear Cheyne Family, This Sunday May 10 we celebrate MothersDay. We want to pause and thank all those women who have shown us God’s love. There are many types of mothers. There are mothers through birth or adoption or fostering or blended families. Some of you have served as spiritual mothers through children or youth ministry or through friendships. For all of you ladies who have served in a mothering role, we sincerely thank you. We appreciate your prayers. We are grateful for your unconditional love. Your sacrificial service has shown us Jesus. Your forgiveness helped us get back up after falling. Your belief in us helped us to believe in ourselves. Your support is helping us to persevere with online education. Your example inspires us to follow Jesus. Over the years we have heard moms share their thoughts on what they would like for Mother’s Day. Some of their gift ideas include: A day off from housework, dish washing and cooking. A long hug. Undivided attention when she is talking. Breakfast in bed. Sincere interest in how her life is going. A good book and the time to read it. A long, quiet, uninterrupted nap. A homemade card or picture telling Mom how much she is appreciated. A hand-picked bouquet of dandelions or tree blossoms placed on her bedside table. A day with the kids making memories, having lunch and enjoying conversation. Watching her children or husband take on a household chore they would not normally do. A quiet night alone to relax and put her feet up. A massage, manicure or pedicure. Hearing from her family how mom pointed them towards God. Being told that she is the best mom in the world! Knowing that her child prays for her. Encouragement when mom is feeling down. Respect. A dinner made by her family.

Appreciating Mothers

Dear Cheyne Family, This Sunday May 10 we celebrate Mothers’ Day.

Grace when she makes a mistake Affirmation of her positive character traits. Children acting on her advice. It is interesting to observe that mothers are quite easy to please. It does not cost much money. It sounds simple, but the best gift you can give your mother is the gift of your love. Did you notice that many of the gifts that mothers would like are practical examples of love as described in Romans 12:9-13?

Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.

We hope that these ideas inspire us as we prepare for Mother’s Day. It is important to remember that mothers experience deep happiness when they receive the above gifts throughout the year and not just on Mother’s Day.
