S I ON We are seeking
inquisitive minds who demonstrate an
impeccable command of their
instrument while remaining humble
servants of great composers and their
scores – young artists who bravely
strive for individuality, making bold
musical statements with the violin:
Musicians whose voice inspires deep

Full of energy and urging musical intelligence, Antje Weithaas captures even the most subtle details of the musical text with unparalleled technical mastery.
In addition to the big concertos of Mozart, Beethoven, and Schumann and contemporary works such as Jörg Widmann’s violin concerto, her diverse concert repertory also includes modern classics such as Shostakovich, Prokovief, and Gubaidulina, as well as lesser-known works like those by Hartmann and Schoeck. Her infectious energy has made Antje Weithaas a sought-after leader of play-conduct projects by international chamber orchestras. As artistic director of the Bern Camerata, she shaped the musical profile of the ensemble for over 10 years. In 2019, she added new two recordings to her already vast list of CD publications. She was a professor at the Berlin University of the Arts for some years; since 2004, she has been teaching at the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin, having become a world-renowned violin pedagogue. Antje Weithaas’ main motivation for taking over artistic directorship of the Joseph Joachim Violin Competition with Oliver Wille was to offer a platform of abundant support to young violinists. Becoming an integral part of the very competition she owes much of her own success, she aspires to find and support gifted, open-minded artists.

Oliver Wille is Professor of Chamber Music at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media. He leads an inter-nationally acclaimed quartet studio, pioneering chamber music education at his institute with various creative and innovative projects. Many ensembles trained by him have received international awards and perform at some of the world’s most prestigious concert venues. At the age of 14, Wille founded the Kuss Quartet with Jana Kuss. Since 2002, the ensemble has been performing worldwide at the most renowned concert halls and festivals. Several of their CD recordings have received awards. Most recently, the quartet recorded Beethoven’s quartet cycle on Paganini’s Stradivari instruments live at Suntory Hall, Tokyo. The Kuss Quartet became known for innovative concert formats and concept programs, such as the series ›Kuss Plus‹ at Berlin techno clubs. The ensemble has been commissioning works from renowned composers for several years. Wille, who was born in Berlin, holds a guest professorship at the Royal Birmingham Conservatory as well as being artistic director of the ›Hitzacker Summer Music Days‹ festival and chairman of the project board and jury of the competition ›Deutscher Musikwettbewerb‹. In addition to being a sought-after music agent, he regularly moderates educational concerts and gives workshops. Between 2011 and 2012, he was artistic director of the Hanover Chamber Music series.
He has taken on the challenge of leading the
renowned Joseph Joachim International Violin Competition Hannover into the future together
with Antje Weithaas, contributing innovative ideas with the aim of creating new
creative networks and cooperations in order to support the next
generation of musicians on their way to the
international concert stage.
