CERTIFIED MAIL
February 12, 2016
Dear Chief Executive Officer:
Since 1972, the Emergency Medical Services Department of the NYU LutheranMedical Center campus at 150 55th Street, Brooklyn has provided emergency medicalservice at the Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support levels in southwestBrooklyn.
The significant increase of 911 emergency calls has put a heavy burden on theNew York City Fire Department's ability to allocate Emergency Medical Servicesresources throughout the City. With the recent merger of NYU Lutheran into NYUHospitals Center ("NYUHC") and the concurrent availability of three EmergencyDepartment facilities in Brooklyn and Manhattan (the free-standing ED at NYU LangoneCobble Hill, the Lutheran campus ED at and the ED at the main campus on First Avenuein Manhattan), we believe an expansion ofNYUHC's service area to cover all ofBrooklyn and Manhattan will greatly benefit public need by reducing response times andfacilitating access to medical care.
Accordingly, NYUHC seeks your support in favor of its application to theRegional Emergency Medical Services Council of New York City, Inc. for an expansionof its service area. For your convenience I have enclosed find a sample letter of support. We would greatly appreciate your preparing the letter on your letterhead and forwardingit to Mitchell Powell, EMS Director, NYU Lutheran Medical Center, 150 55thStreet, Brooklyn, New York 11220 by February 26, 2016 for inclusion with ourexpansion application. If you have any questions regarding the letter or NYUHC's plans, please feel free to contact Mr. Powell at 718-630-7133 or by e-mail [email protected].
Thank you in advance for your support.
Sincerely,
Robelÿ I. Grossman, MDChief Executive Officer
