Global Engagement Office (GEO) is a supporting unit in Faculty of Social and Political Sciences of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), which serves as the forefront in championing internationalization agenda. GEO was established following the growing concern of the vast development of the UGM’s internationalization agenda by Prof. Pratikno, the former Dean who is currently serving as the state’s secretary under Joko Widodo’s presidency. As UGM in general and our faculty in particular had set up countless partnerships with numerous international institutions such as universities, research centers, and NGOs around the world, Prof. Pratikno believed that it is imperative that we also set up a unit at the

Faculty of Social and Political Sciences in which all of its international affairs are managed. In its almost six years of service, GEO has been performing positively in establishing and maintaining international cooperation. It has held well-praised international events, hosting world’s best students, appointed as the coordinating unit for joint research programs, and other numerous forms of partnerships. GEO always thrives to serve the faculty in its international affairs. ASEAN Young SocialPreneurs Program (AYSPP) 2017 is its biennial showcase of innovation and capability in harnessing international cooperation to support youth social business ideas.

FOREWORD

Greetings!Today’s youth is increasingly more aware and critical towards social problems happening around them. This huge potential is what the Faculty is committed to nurture. We are hoping that through this young social-preneurship competition, youth from countries all over ASEAN and, if possible, the world would be able to gather and contest their creative ideas in finding solutions to social problems as well as training to become a successful entrepreneur. To add to the value of the learning experience, this ASEAN Young SocialPreneurs Program brings the participants to Yogyakarta, Indonesia and especially to our educopolis campus of Universitas Gadjah Mada – where would you learn better about the culture and society but the place that celebrates its multiculturalism. Yogyakarta is a melting pot of culture, and Universitas Gadjah Mada, being the largest university in Indonesia, has been welcoming students from across the globe. This richness in exposures and our commitment for education of the youth would hopefully make a great combination that would allow participants to have an insightful educational experience.Wishing you all a very good luck for the competition!

Best regards,

Dr. Erwan Agus PurwantoDean of Faculty of Social and Political Sciences
