Application & Instructions for the 2019-2020 Academic Year

PLEASE NOTE: This application is for MASTER’s (non-thesis) applicants only.

McGill University and The Mastercard Foundation are pleased to offer full scholarships to

economically challenged, academically gifted Master’s students from Sub-Saharan Africa

through The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program. This scholarship program is designed

to sponsor outstanding, community engaged students to attend university who otherwise

would not have the opportunity, thereby, fostering the development of future Sub-Saharan

African leaders and entrepreneurs.

In addition to financial support, Scholars are provided with a comprehensive support

network that includes an array of mentoring and support services to ensure each student’s

academic success, community service engagement and transition to socially relevant employment opportunities, when they

return to Africa at the conclusion of their studies.

PART 1: INSTRUCTIONS

Deadline for submission: Your Choice Program’s Application deadline PLEASE NOTE: In order to be considered for The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at McGill University, you must

submit an application for admission to a Master’s degree program at McGill as well as completing The Mastercard

Foundation Scholars Program Application Form and associated documents.

Please follow the steps below carefully:

1) To have access to this form, you should have already:

a) Created a uApply Account: https://nimbus.mcgill.ca/uApply;

b) Been nominated by a McGill Program or a Scholars Program Partner; and

c) Downloaded the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program Master’s Application Form, and Master’s

Recommendation Form available on the website: https://www.mcgill.ca/Mastercardfdn-scholars/apply-

program/graduate-application.

2) Within 10 business days of your Nomination Form being sent to [email protected], you will receive an email

prompting you to complete the online application form in uApply for MCFSP Master’s students. The email will be sent

to the email address listed in your uApply account.

3) Complete and submit your online application for admission to McGill by your choice program’s application deadline.

4) Send a copy of the Recommendation Form to your reference to be completed and submitted through the uApply

system.

5) Complete all requested documents and upload them to uApply, including:

a) Your MCF Application Form (this document).

b) A Proof of Financial Status (which you will see in your checklist). As Proof of your Financial Status, you will need to

upload two documents:

A Sponsor Letter from the institution, organization or person who paid for your undergraduate degree. The

letter should detail the amount of money you were given to complete your undergraduate degree, why you

were awarded the money, and what the money was meant to be spent on.

A recent bank statement (issued within the 3 months previous to the submission date of your application). The

bank statement should verify the information you list as part of your application (this document).

c) Any other required documents not listed above requested to uApply. Please note that the list of required

documents may change periodically so please check your account regularly.

Please note that all documents (including transcripts, references, letters of intent, etc.) must be received before

February 4, 2019.
