SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHERS/WORKERS & VBS

Leadership The Sunday school ministry is part of the local church, therefore, its head is Jesus Christ. Under Christ is the leadership of the Pastor. Responsible to the Pastor, and working with him, is the Children’s Ministry Leader. It is of the utmost importance that every worker complies with the leadership of the Pastor and Children’s Ministry Leader. (Hebrews 13:7,17; I Peter 5:5) Constructive suggestions are always accepted and welcomed, but destructive criticism is against scriptural principles. Guidelines 1. All teachers and workers must be saved. 2. All teachers and workers must be baptized by water immersion (one time backwards under water) and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. 3. All teachers and workers must regularly attend the services of Calvary Baptist Church. 4. All teachers and workers must be loyal to Christ, to their Pastor, and to the Children’s Ministry Leader. 5. All teachers and workers must keep the need of lost souls before them and be a soul-winner. 6. All teachers and workers must give their time to the ministry of visitation. 7. All teachers and workers need to live a separated life unto God, in walk, talk, dress, and lifestyle. 8. All teachers and workers must be faithful in their tithes and offerings to this local church. 9. All teachers and workers must keep God’s Word as their focal point—for life and ministry. 10. All teachers and workers must have a dedicated prayer life. 11. All teachers and workers need to be organized, prepared, and excited about their class. 12. All teachers and workers must teach from the King James Version 1611 Bible for all ministries of

Calvary Baptist Church. Meetings All teachers and workers must attend meetings whenever called for. Time

“Punctuality is morality. Punctuality is not a mere excellence of habit, it is an honest and true disposition. To be unpunctual is to take liberties with other people’s rights; it is to be selfish under pretence of being only eccentric.”

-- C.J. Parker

Teachers must arrive at the church on Sunday morning no later than 8:45 am. Teachers must be in the classroom to greet students as they arrive, and to have their class prepared for the morning.

Appearance All Sunday school teachers and workers must realize their position as leaders. Therefore, we must keep a good standard before others. Romans 12:1,2; I Timothy 4:12,13; Philippians 4:8,9. Men -- Men are to wear dress shirts, dress pants, dress shoes, and a tie. Hair should be well groomed, neat, and combed. No ear studs, earrings, or piercings. Ladies – Ladies are to wear modest and appropriate apparel. Dresses or skirts and blouses please. Dresses and skirts should be no higher than the top of the knee. Blouses should have no low necklines or backs. Dress shoes please. No piercings outside of earrings. As Sunday school teachers and workers we must avoid all appearances of evil. Therefore, the use of alcohol, tobacco in any form, non-medical use of drugs, and memberships in secret societies is not permitted. Attendance at places of entertainment and membership in clubs that will hurt or hinder the testimony of Christ and this church should be avoided.

Associations As a Bible-believing Baptist church, we are in sympathy with and will have fellowship with only those Christian movements and organizations whose leaders and sponsors are not connected with apostacy, heresy, neo-evangelicalism or liberalism. Romans 16:17; II Thessalonians 3:13-15. Class Order All workers must be ever mindful to keep a decent order to their class. The students must be kept under control and not “tearing up” the building and contents. An organized, busy class will be disciplined. Never strike, hit or shake a child. If there is a problem child please get his or her parent. Conclusion The work of the Sunday school is a joyous work, as we train boys and girls, young people, and moms and dads with the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ. Let us all be dedicated to this cause, keeping in mind the great reward of helping others, while working for our eternal rewards and hearing from the mouth of our Lord, “well done thou good and faithful servant.”

MUSIC MINISTRY

Calvary Baptist Church’s Music Position 1. CBC’s position on music is what we believe a balanced, biblical position. We hold to a conservative, yet

exciting, music program. We allow hymns, inspirational songs, gospel and southern gospel songs, and conservative contemporary songs.

2. We allow all instruments to be used in a godly conservative fashion. 3. We are not against hand clapping as the Spirit of God leads – but not to where the clapping takes over

and or away from the message of the song. 4. We desire our music program to honor God, glorify the Savior, and to enhance the service in preparing

hearts for the preaching of God’s Word. 5. Calvary Baptist Church does allow and uses background CDs and accompaniment CDs. 6. Calvary Baptist Church does allow and uses hand microphones. 7. The pastor has the final say as to the direction and leadership of the music program and all music

ministries in discussion with the minister of music. 8. No singers, groups, etc. shall minister in music at CBC without pastoral approval. 9. Any Scripture used in the music ministries of CBC must be from the King James Version of the Bible.

General “Serve the Lord with gladness; come before His presence with singing.” (Psalm 100:2) For those to whom the Lord has given a singing voice or the ability to play an instrument, it is a real privilege to be able to use this gift in the local church to the glory of God. Being a member of the music ministry in the church can be a blessing both to yourself and to others if your heart is right with God. Every time we sing or play, we must be aware of our responsibility: 1. Music sets the atmosphere of the worship service. 2. The choir and instrumentalists encourage and guide the congregational singing. 3. Above all, music helps prepare hearts for the preaching of the Word of God. All choir members and instrumentalists must be aware of the commitment needed to be a credit to this ministry. It is important to realize that each and every member must be as consistent and as dedicated as possible. To be a member of the choir you must be an active member of Calvary Baptist Church and 16 years of age or older. You are expected to uphold Christian principles and attitudes as you are considered to be “Ambassadors of Christ”. (II Corinthians 5:20) Leadership The Choir and the Music Ministry are part of the local church; therefore, its head is the Lord Jesus Christ. Given to the Pastor is the leadership of every area of ministry, including the music ministry. Under the Pastor’s leadership is the Minister of Music in charge of music. It is of the utmost importance that every choir member, and the music member, complies with the leadership of the music minister. (Hebrews 13:7,17; I Peter 5:5). Constructive suggestions are always accepted and welcomed, but destructive criticism is against scriptural principles! Time Schedule Sunday Morning Warm Up is at 8:30 AM. Choir rehearsal is Sunday evening from 4-4:45 PM or at special days and times as required.

Rehearsals Attendance at all rehearsals is of the utmost importance. Practice is essential and is the key to a great choir. We must not be satisfied with giving less than our best! Remember the choir is a team and for a team to function, all team members must be present. If you are going to be absent, please let the music minister know. Communication is greatly appreciated. Plan to arrive 10 minutes before the scheduled practice time. You should be in your seat, ready to begin practice on time. Remember: Punctuality is Morality! Members will be advised of any changes or cancellation of practices. Extra rehearsals may be called in the event of seasonal specials or cantatas. Idle chatter during practice is both inconsiderate and distracting to others. Please restrain from unnecessary talking during practice. Any marking of music books should be done in pencil.

Dress Men are to wear dress shirts, dress pants, and ties. Please wear dress shoes. Hair should be well groomed and kept neat and combed. No ear studs, earrings, or piercings. Ladies are to wear modest and appropriate apparel. Dresses or skirts and blouses please. Dresses and skirts should be no higher than the top of the knee and blouses should not have low necklines or backs. No hats are to be worn. Dress shoes please. No piercings outside of earrings. Please do not wear any clothing that is extreme or that will call undue attention to yourself. The choir needs to blend in with each other as much as possible. For Gospel Sings & Concerts that are held on CBC grounds, inside or outside of the building: Men are to wear casual or golf type shirts with “docker” style or casual dress pants. No flip flops; casual shoes are appropriate. Ladies are to wear modest and appropriate apparel. Dresses or skirts please are to be no higher than the top of the knee and blouses should not have low necklines or low backs. Appearance Upon entering the choir loft, be conscious of your facial expression and your general appearance. People will be watching you. Be pleasant, even try to smile! Performance Always have your music open to the first page, resting on your lap, ready to sing. When the director proceeds to his podium and stands there, choir members should not be “fishing” for their music. All music should remain open for the entire song. The director will signal the choir to rise and sit. Be sure to be watching so that the members can all stand together at the same time. Keep your eyes on the director, not at the audience. During congregational singing, have hymnbook in hand, and help to lead the people in songs of praise by being part of the song service. Special Music Being part of the special music ministry is both a great blessing and responsibility! If you are asked to be part of a group or soloist, be ready for commitment before you proceed. All special music and instrumentalists are responsible to, and under the direction of, the music minister. No special music is to be done at any service without the approval and knowledge of the music minister. No talking is to be done before the presentation of a musical number, simply minister in music. All special music participants must be active members of Calvary Baptist Church. It is our desire that you be a member of the choir also. Music selections are to be God-honoring and selected with great care and thought as to their content. All special music performers are expected to be fully prepared and practiced prior to the scheduled date. Practicing in the auditorium within 15 minutes of the beginning of any service is not permitted! All special music performers are expected to be fully prepared and practiced prior to the scheduled date. Practicing in the auditorium within 15 minutes of the beginning of any service is not permitted! All arrangements with the sound technician (for microphones, performance instructions, and sound tracks) should be made prior to the beginning of the service. The music minister will inform all specials where they will perform on the platform. If there are special sound needs, please see the music minister in advance.

The music minister assigns all dates and should be contacted as soon as possible if there is a problem. If you are ill, please try to contact the music minister 24 hours before the service, so other arrangements can be made. Switching of dates with someone else is not permitted unless the music minister has been contacted and approves of the change. Those desiring to be put on the special music schedule should contact the music minister to set up an appointment for an audition. Music groups such as duets, trios, quartets, and special groups will be formed, as approved by the music minister, and as personnel allow. Conclusion Music is ordained of God, and is used in the local church to the glory of God. May all we who sing and play do it for the glory of God, for the saving of souls, and for the building up of the saints, until He comes again!
