TheGraduateSchoolofCommercialVehicleTechnologywasesta-blished in2006at theUniversityofKaiserslauternasacorporateinstitutionof fourdepartments:MechanicalandProcessEnginee-ring,ElectricalandComputerEngineering,ComputerSciencesandSocialSciences.Thegraduateschooloffersamaster’sprogramincommercialvehi-cletechnology,aswellasdoctoralresearchtrainingopportunitiesintheparticipatingengineeringdisciplines.TheCVTmaster’spro-gramisthefirstinterdisciplinarymaster’sprogramworldwidethatisfullyaccreditedbyASIIN.Theprogramoffersabilingual,interdis-ciplinaryapproachandaclosecooperationwiththeindustry.Theeducationand researchonCVT topicswill integrateallmajorfieldsoftheproductlifecycleofcommercialvehicles,suchaspowertrain, vehicle design, vehicle system dynamics,material science,joining technology, production technology, and human-machineinteraction.Atthesametime,italsoincorporatesarangeofsocio-logicalaspectsandsoftskills.

Thecommercialvehicleindustryisoneofthemostimportantinno-vationdriversinGermany,Europeandallovertheworld.GermanyisEurope’sleadingcommercialvehiclemanufacturer.Inthesouth-westofthecountrythereisaparticularlyhighconcentrationofma-nufacturingplantsandsupplierstothecommercialvehicleindustry.TheCommercialVehicleCluster(CVC)hasestablishedaplatformforcommunication and cooperation between the industries and re-searchinstitutesintheregion.TheUniversityofKaiserslauternislocatedrightinthegeographicalheartoftheCVC.Asaresult,itiswithinaverycloseproximitytobothmanufacturingindustries,aswellasavarietyofrenownedresearchinstitutes.TheUniversityit-selfpromotesresearch,innovationandtechnologytransferforthecommercialvehicle industries.
