Photo taken by ACEAP Ambassador MaD Dieterich (ACEAP/NSF) ApplicaIons are now being accepted for the 2020 Astronomy in Chile Educator Ambassadors Program (ACEAP). Visit - hDp://astroambassadors.com/ to apply. This program, in its sixth year, brings amateur astronomers, planetarium personnel, and astronomy formal and informal educators to U.S.-funded astronomy observatories in Chile. While there, ambassadors receive behind-the-scenes tours of some of the world’s most producIve and advanced telescopes, including in-depth informaIon on their instruments and discoveries. Prior to the ACEAP ExpediIon, parIcipants engage in professional development acIviIes designed to improve STEM communicaIon and educaIon. This unique professional development experience has become known for: • Providing unique access to faciliIes and people, and the astronomy ecosystem, • Bringing together people with diverse backgrounds and skills from both formal and informal educaIon communiIes, • InvesIng in the Ambassadors: acIviIes don’t stop at the end of the expediIon or year of involvement, • Building on a foundaIon of common interest to develop deep connecIons between people, • CreaIng a network that conInues to branch out, and • Providing a creaIve space for parIcipants to interact.

Anyone,includinginternaIonalparIcipants,mayapplyforoneoffiveposiIonsthatarefullysupportedbytheirinsItuIonand/orpersonalfunding.TheremainingslotsarerestrictedtoU.S.ciIzensandpermanentresidentsorChileanresidentswhoareamateurastronomers,Kthroughcollegeformalandinformaleducatorswhoteachastronomyaspartoftheircurriculumorprogram,planetariumeducators,orthoseworkingintheareaofastronomycommunicaIons.

TenambassadorswillbeselectedfortheExpediIon,whichwillbeginonAugust9,2020andconInuethroughAugust17,2020.Thisnine-dayexpediIon(notincludingtravelImebetweentheU.S.andChile)willincludestopsattheCerroTololoInter-AmericanObservatory(CTIO),Gemini-SouthObservatory,andtheAtacamaLargeMillimeter/submillimeterArray(ALMA).
