PRECIPITATION

What is it? Types of Precipitation Instrument

* The amount of water falling from the sky in liquid or solid form.

Rain : water falling from the sky.

Drizzle : light rain.

Showers : short period of rain.

Hail : small pieces of ice that fall during a storm

Snow : It’s white and soft. It falls from the sky when the weather is very cold.

CLOUDS

What is it? Types of Clouds Do they bring rain? Instrument

* Masses of condensed water

Cirrus : They float very high and they are made of ice. They look white and feathery.

Stratus : they float very low. Fog is a stratus cloud at ground level. They look like a low grey blanket.

Cumulus : they are white and fluffy. They usually mean fine weather. Sometimes they look like pieces of floating cotton.

Cumulonimbus : they are thunderstorm clouds. They can be beautiful but dangerous.

They don’t.

Stratus clouds bring rain or snow.Sometimes they produce light rain (drizzle).

They don’t.

They often bring with them heavy rain, hail and lightning.

WIND

What is it? Types of Winds(Beaufort Scale) What happens? Instrument

* Air moving quickly

Calm : no breeze.

Gentle : light breeze.

Moderate : medium breeze.

Strong : strong breeze.

Gale : A very strong wind

Smoke rises vertically.

Leaves and flags move.

Small branches move.

Big branches move.

Little branches break off.

* Wind vane: to know wind direction.
