I have become interested in the Clio Awards, a prestigious compe- tition that ranks above all in the advertising, design and interactive industry. I know next year will be far off the stage where I would be able to have any recognition of my work, but I hope that trying to get to this year’s event in New York in May will really spur me on to excel in level 6 to start out on my quest of being entered into this awards competition. My portfolio needs to be worked on more. My current portfolio contains little work specifically orientated at advertising as I am only three months into my advertising life. I am going to need to show examples of a vast range of work from projects on a small personal scale to work that shows I can work to a top agency high profile standard. I am going to have to work with people I know to produce the smaller briefs, getting to know what the clients want me to produce and really excelling on them to prove my worth to them. To produce the higher end projects I am going to contact agencies to give me briefs to work on, get them to give me a chance to show my worth, show how I think and how I can create good outcomes that they might be interested in using themselves.I will aim to get my work up to a standard where I can actually start to enter competitions, this is a really big incen- tive for me as I feel I thrive when I know I am against other Designers working on the same or similar briefs. I am going to have to create innovative original works/campaigns that will really grab people’s attention and make people think i am somebody that will bring something new, something special to their company. I have at this moment in time got my work up on display on two internet sites one being www.tumblr.com the other www.finalcrit.com. Getting my work on these websites is the first step to get my work on show to Companies that might in the near future give me projects. My aim is to develop these over level 6 to create a deeply personal vibe to my pages to really portray a character to my work that won’t just be glanced at and clicked off from but looked at in more depth creating an interest with whoever might be viewing it. Being on these websites enables others to analyze my work and give me feedback, which can only be seen as positive to hear other peoples comments and views on my work. Poster and billboard design is what really excites me at this moment in time. It seems pretty obvious but is easily the most used form of advertising throughout history, in that posters are versatile in placement so can be incorporated to fit well in any situation. Getting the right placement though is another matter, meaning that if you create a really well designed poster, with a strong message that might win someone’s attention but if it is in the wrong place where it may not be seen, is there any point having made the poster?
