CASE STUDY: Upgrading Flow Line for Higher Pressures

Apache was seeking a higher pressure flow line alternative to their current flow line material. The operating pressures were pushing up to 500 Psi, which exceeded the current pipe rating. A 4” 500 Psi Polyflow Thermoflex pipe was selected instead. The Seth Campbell flow line was 3700’ in length, and training and installation was scheduled for 9:00 a.m. on a Monday morning. The new Polyflow Self Loading Trailer was dispatched to save time and cost on forklift rentals and increase reel change efficiency. The hotshot delivery occurred at 8:45 a.m. The Polyflow Field Technician proceeded to begin training the Roustabout Crew on both the installation procedures required for Polyflow’s Thermoflex product line, but also proper use of the self-loading trailer at 9:00 a.m.

Once the crew was trained on the proper usage of the trailer, unspooling began. The unspooling process was assisted by a backhoe provided by the gang and deployment of the first reel of 1500’ began. Once the reel was emptied, the reel change out process was implemented for training.

THE BENEFITS OF THERMOFLEX® ARE: • Extremely rapid low cost

installation

• Light duty equipment because of lightweight pipe

• Corrosion-resistant

• Low pull forces required

• Saves money!

Upgrading Flow Line for Higher Pressures POLYFLOW SOLUTION REPLACES PLASTIC PIPE IN UNDER FOUR HOURS

The entire 3700’ project was completed in a matter of 3 hours after Safety Meeting. 9:00-10:00 Tailgate safety meeting and training overview with Roustabout Crew 10:00-10:30 Unspool of first reel (1500’) 10:30-10:50 Splice coupling installed (including necessary OJT steps) 11:00-12:00 Unspooling of 2nd reel (2300’) 12:00-12:45 End fittings, Road Crossings and cleanup.

PIPE UNIONS WITH NO WELDING IN 20 MINUTES The change out occurred in a matter of minutes, saving time and forklift cost, and then the crew was ready for their first splice union.

The overall splice process only took approximately 20 minutes, including on the job training steps to ensure that all workers were clear on processes and steps to ensure consistency for both the splices and end couplings.

Polyflow’s newly redesigned safety guards were utilized to prevent any risk of finger or hand injuries.
