Come, rock His cradle lowly, The throne of God all-holy;Come worship and adore Him, And kneel we down before Him.Sweet little Jesu, Sweet little Jesu.

Do nothing to annoy Him, But everything to joy Him;For sin, by night or morrow, Would cause Him pain and sorrow.Sweet little Jesu, Sweet little Jesu.

So at your hour of dying, This Babe, in cradle lying,(For He is King supernal) Shall grant you rest eternal.Sweet little Jesu, Sweet little Jesu.

–traditional Christmas spiritual About this morning’s choral and organ music…

The tragically short-lived Nicolaus Bruhns (1663-97), organist in the North German Hanseatic city of Husum, left behind a small oeuvre of extraordinary quality. Of his organ works, the chorale fantasia on the ancient Advent hymn Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland (adapted from Gregorian chant by Martin Luther) and the “Little” Praeludium in E minor stand out for their extraordinary wealth of invention and formal refinement. Bruhns was one of the small number of composers whom J. S. Bach is said to have held in highest esteem. Come, rock his cradle is a gently lyrical setting of a Christmas text by the Rev. G. R. Woodward, whose poem was inspired by a 16th-century collection of Ger-man devotional verse. The traditional Christmas Spiritual See dat Babe is here given a dramatic treat-ment by Stacey Gibbs, a Detroit-based choral conductor, arranger and composer.

White Gift Sunday - December 9, 2018History of White Gift Sunday

White Gift Sunday dates back to 1904 in Ohio. The wife of a Methodist minister and her two daughters came up with the idea of giving gifts wrapped in white paper at Christmas time to people in need.

Traditionally, gifts were wrapped in white so that they would be anonymous and so that people who could only give a little would not be embarrassed. There is a Chinese tradition where all the people gave their king a gift wrapped in plain white paper so that every gift would look the same. Each person gave the king what he or she was able, and the king welcomed them all.

The White Gift shares in the spirit of Christ and the God of love at Christmas. We give gifts of love to people in need. These gifts are often non-perishable food items, which are distributed to people in the community.

White Gift Sunday celebrates the stewardship of God’s love and giving at the time of year when we remember the coming of the King of Kings.

Where your generosity will help….

The Open Door and Tyndale-St. George will benefi t from your Christmas gen-erosity. Tyndale is looking for new toys for children aged 2 - 12. For the older children (12 - 17) Tyndale puts together vanity packs with some nice personal hygiene products and a few treats. Non-perishable food is also needed.

Please do not wrap your gifts.

Seniors’ Support ProgramHelp and support for seniors!

For many members in the congregation, this program of the St. Andrew’s Presby-terian Homes Foundation has proved most valuable. Its aim is to provide guid-ance and support for Presbyterian seniors in and around Montreal.

The Service Care Providers (SCPs) from the program have accompanied seniors to various appointments, taken their hearing aides for check ups and repair, replaced eyeglasses, purchased healthcare equipment and provided homecare assistance. They have been especially helpful in supporting clients suff ering with cancer by taking them to their treatments and doctors’ visits.

The SCPs often meet with seniors over a “spot of tea” to establish a relationship, even if the seniors do not require the services today. They have found that if se-niors do need assistance at a later date, it is much easier for them to call because it is someone whom they already know and trust.

Everyone can use a little sunshine in their life. Seniors who have used the ser-vices feel relieved, cared for and more connected to their communities. Please reach out to the SCPs- Cindy Morneault (514) 232-8189 and Patricia Smith (514) 386-4172, even if it is just for tea and a visit. You’ll be glad you did. You can contact Cindy or Patricia directly or inquire through our church offi ce, minis-ters or elders and they will let the SCPs know to give you a call. Through the Seniors’ Support Program, the St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Homes Foundation, has for over 50 years been dedicated to helping seniors.

You can fi nd more information about the Seniors’ Support Program by visiting the St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Homes Foundation’s new website:https://standrewspresbyterianhomes.org/

Thank you.
