I:Your brothers influence on you was quite large, wasnt it?

A:It was... Although hes 6 years older than me, I was interested in what he and his

friends were doing. He played with remote controlled toys and plastic models. Weprobably wanted to do the same things. I bought him a radio controlled toy for a

New Years gift and my relatives were raising pearls and gave me pocket money for

helping with the shell cleaning and I was also a paper boy when I was in my third

year of middle school.

I:Was that to buy the things you wanted?

A:Even though I was getting $30 a month, isnt that never enough? My stomach was

empty and I wanted a guitar

I:When you wanted to play guitar, what did your brother say?

A:At first, he let me play in his room, but he was also half-hearted about it and that

became annoying. So he handed me his out-of-tune classical guitar and said Ill

lend this to you, so go back to your room. (laugh)

I:And the little brother returned to his room with pleasure.

A:Yes. I investigated by myself and played while looking at chord sheet music. After

that, my brother let me have his electric guitar. But that guitar was broken and,

well, I had no choice but to buy one for myself.

I:Why did your brother let you have a broken guitar?

A:Isnt it because he didnt need it anymore?

I:Ahaha!

A:(laugh) That guitar of my brothers I wanted is still in my house and, if you talked

about guitars, I thought of that guitar. I had wanted it forever. Its been put in my

room now for some reason.

I:Its a very special guitar to you.

I:When did you start to surf?

A:I started because I got a car when I was 18. I drove until the point where you

could surf the waves. And my girlfriend at the times brother also surfed. So Iborrowed his board and went out alone and thought this is interesting. Being able

to make new friends there was also fun and I went there every day. I rode the

waves during the day and worked at a pub at night. That was my life.

I:So working and surfing was your youth?

Thats probably right. That may have been my youth. My girlfriend at the time

was still in school, so I went to pick her up in my car.

I:Thats cool~

A:But it was a prestigious school, so I always thought I wouldnt fit in there.

(means he was probably poor...)

I:But I think your girlfriend was happy that you came and picked her up. And her

friends were probably jealous.

A:But I didnt wait outside the school gates. I wasnt good enough to.

I:But her friends probably thought Lets go ask that guy out! (laugh)

Even if she wasnt home, I watched videos and surfed with her brother and I

thought I can do heaps here.

I:What happened to your girlfriend?

Honestly, I dont see her anymore. Because I ended up leaving her behind when I

left for Tokyo

I:And what did you tell your girlfriend when you're decided to go to Tokyo?

A:I told her Im going to Tokyo and she said OK. She was the type of girl to not

say anything.

I:I guess she couldnt say anything. I dont think she could have said Dont go.

A:Yeah I didnt think of anything then because my eyes just went for things right

in front of them, but what I did seemed really mean when I thought of it later

I:What luggage did you have with you when you came to Tokyo?

A:Just my bag and guitar. And for money, I had nothing but 5,000yen that my

parents had given me. I arrived at Ikebukuro at first and thought There are so

many crows in the street.
