In the stumbling, rising and falling economy of Pakistan AMCORP has grown from a construction firm to a diversified service provider in the areas of high end engineering and industrial construction. To survive and in the longing for success in new ventures we always remain in hunt for fresh avenues to excel in and new clients to add to our trusted ones. Today, AMCORP’s project experience in the entire spectrum of construction industry and track record in these fields makes it one of the handful of players in the project engineering and industrial construction field in Paki-stan.
Since two generations we have believed that:
“We are what we repeatedly do, excel-lence is not an act but a habit”
We the second generation have been induced with the passion for excellence and thorough profession-alism by our predecessors. This remains the key to where we stand now.By nature we have always been conformist and have believed in being part of the solution and not the problem.
Conflict Resolution has always been our strength. Under such scenarios we believe in looking for our mistakes first and keep our client’s purview ahead of our own. Hence we have never been into arbitration or litigation with any of our clients.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE PAST PROJECTS
30
Civil Works of Naimat Gas Plant Phase 5A & B (160 MMSCFD):Client : United Energy Pakistan (UEP)Consultant : China Petroleum Engineering Co. Ltd.Location : Naimat Gas Field, TandoAdamDuration : Sep 2014 to April 2105Value : 180 Millions Rps.Amidst Gas crisis United Energy Pakistan, announced
setting up of 160 MMSCFD plant in two phases in a
time frame of 6 months. We had just been prequalified
due to extensive experience with E & P industry and
were given a chance to bid for this esteemed project.
We were awarded the project within a week’s time of
bidding and were asked to start the works within 5
days and so we did. On the 5th day our team was
carrying out the layout and the very same evening first
concrete was poured. The whole plant was fabricated in
China so the layout had to be precise and especially the
anchor bolts had to be precise to the tone of seconds.
Our construction plan was based on the fabrication
being done in china and their shipment dates. Hence
we were planning for months and they were
changing in days, and then we had to plan
again. Engineers from our side and client’s
side were planning and following up
activities day in day out with nothing on
their side. Shipment dates were changing,
priorities of equipment foundations were
changing, last minute changes to drawings
were made, yet the project was delivered in
time and plant installed without any glitches
or problems in layout or 3000 anchor bolts.
We now proudly present this project on our
profile now as there are only couples of
companies who have executed such projects
in Pakistan.

Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital Diagnostic Centre at DHA KarachiClient : Sh.Khanum HospitalConsultant : NESPAKLocation : KarachiDuration : Sep.2007-dec.2008Value : 150 Million Rps.
Our drive to execute high end finishing
works gave us the aspiration to bid for this
prestigious project and the fruit of the hard
work was the award of this contract. realiz-
ing the divine intentions of this project and
that this was being built from the funds of
philanthropists, we had our conscience
checking on our delivery and workmanship.
The bricks on the facadewere brought in
from Lahore and even the workers were
hired from there as the best brick masons
are found there. It was built on reclaimed
land from sea hence the foundations were
laid on piles as deep as 90 feet. The building
was inaugurated by none other than Imran
Khan himself. the building was designed by
Mr Arif changezi of NESPAK.
32
our surge of desire and aspiration to execute
finishing works that speaks of quality, determi-
nation and skills led us to Aga Khan. Every
contracting firm, no matter how small or large
its magnitude is, desires Aga Khan’s name on its
profile. More or less anybody who has an eye
for quality instantly perceives the construction
work executed at Aga Khan as a superlative
degree of high quality and skillful execution and
finishing. When the opportunity came knocking
at our door to work on A.K.U’s Laboratory
Building Shell space project, we grasped it and
took it as a challenge for ourselves to deliver
excellence.
A.K.U.H Laboratory Building Shell SpaceClient : Aga Khan Univ. & Hosp.Consultant : ARCOPLocation : KarachiDuration : Jan. 2006-Jun. 2006Value : 12.92 Million Rps.

It was our first experience working for an oil and gas company.
Our first project was at Thar, where we constructed the site in
given time duration of 60 days. It was the biggest challenge as we
had never executed a project of such nature and starting from
almost scatch. we had to develop camp facilities, maintain highest
standards of HSE and execute work in 50 degree centigrade. This
concession of ENI is totally sandy desert and the temperature in
summer holds no respect for human endurance. In four years, we
had executed 19 well sites and many other projects like road
repair works, construction of culverts and filling of washouts. The
allocated time period for each well site was 60 days, without the
considerations of dynamics of the location. Out of all the exected
locations, 7 of them were handed over in almost 30 days due to
ENI’s requirement to meet production demands. In 4 years we
had handed all projects in the allocated time and the feat was we
did almost 3 million man hours LTI free. The fruit of the ard work
done by our team was, we were awarded the following contract
after this one expired.
Civil and earth Work at Tajjal and East Sindh Concession on call-out basisClient : ENI Pakistan Ltd.Location : KadanwariDuration : 4 YearsValue : 2,800 Million Rps.
34
well-site we executed seven other well-sites
in the same region, but the difficult part of
every new project was shifting the whole
camp to a new location as every new site
was considerably far from previous one and
travelling long distances in this treacherous
and terrain was not advisable by our HSE for
the clients HSE. Hence everytime we had to
shift a camp which could accomodate almost
350 people to a new location.
After Bhit-13 well-site we had considerably
understood the strata and had a better
understanding of the work. Some well-sites
had cutting quantities as large as 45,000
cubicmeter but we again handed over the
site in time and did it without blasting. This
call-out contract gave us ample experience
that we treasure and another satisfied client.
After expiry we again got back the contract
for next 36 months and from November
2012 we have until now executed six
well-sites in this new contract.
Civil and Earth Work at kirthar concession on call-out basis:Client: ENI Pakistan Ltd.Location: Bhit and Badhra Duration: 3 YearsValue: 1000 Millions Rps.Almost after working for an year at Tajjal and East
Sindh Concession, we won the call out contract for Civil
and Earth Works at Kirthar Concession. The terrain
referred normally to as Bhit and Bhadra was poles apart
from the surface we had encountered at Tajjal and East
Sindh. This is a mountainous terrain composed of Hard
Rock, where in certain areas granite is also found. It is
daunting task to excavate or drill over there,
considering the water pit sizes and cutting pit sizes that
are required on a well site.
Teh first project we were awarded was BHIT-13 at
which around 20,000 cubicmeter cutting was required
and 118,000 cubicmeter of filling that to in an idea
where soft soil is very scarce. However cutting was very
time consuming as the rock as the rock was very hard,
hence we had to blast that whole cutting portion, which
was again our first experience. However the project
was completed within time frame and safely. After this

Atomic Energy Medical Centre at JPMCClient : Pakistan Atomic Energy CommissionConsultant : NESPAKLocation : KarachiDuration : January 2007 to May 2009Value : 130.00 Million Rps.
Atomic Energy Commission had conceived
this project to cater to medical requirement
of lesser privileged class. A covered area of
almost 80.00 square feet. The most
interesting and challenging at the same time
was the construction of two bunkers at the
back of the building which were made for
the treatment of cancer patients who are
treated with radiation therapy. The walls of
each bunker are more more than 10 feet
wide and the slab is almost 6 feet thick. the
building is beautifully designed by NESPAK,
giving emphasis to illuminating through
natural light rather than artificial making the
building design energy efficient. Among the
old structures of JPMC this building stands
out with modern architecture.
36
Inlet manifold works were executed to cater to the
flow lines of Zam 8 and Zam 9 and two future well
sites. Working inside plant with HSE standards of
the highest level set by BHP was overwhelming
experience and this experience is treasured by our
company.

Civil & Mechanical work of Zam Zam - 8 & Zam - 9 Flow Line Work at Dadu (BHP) Client : BHP BILLITONLocation : Zam Zama Gas PlantDuration : 3 monthsValue : 113.7 Million Rps.
It was out first project of such nature. We
executed two flow line projects almost 7 km
combined for Zam 8 well site and Zam 9 well
site. The challenging part was chandan canal
crossing for which we had to perform HDD
which was almost 280 meters .It was a team
effort by AMCORP team and BHP team
which made it possible to complete the
project in time and without LTI.
37
The project was completed in 6 months time.
Construction of two large water retaining
structures was part of this project, one of which
was an overheadtank, which is at a height of
113 feet and an underground tank with the
capacity of holding 300,000 gallons of water.
After the successful stint with RTO as our client during the
renovation works of their main office building, we again got an
opportunity to work with them at their Transit Accomodation
Building.
The building was designed by NESPAK. It was completed with in
the stipulated time period and to the clients and consultants
satisfaction, hence became the source of pride for the company.
The project also included construction of 3250-rft boundary wall.

Built right outside the plant gate. There were five E ponds built to
cater to storage of produced water originating from the well sitesConstruction of Evaporation Ponds at Dadu (BHP)Client : BHP BILLITONLocation : Zam Zama Gas PlantDuration : 2 monthsValue : 41.00 Million Rps.
After the devastating floods in 2010 the air strip was almost 7 feet
under water. After the area dried out, BHP immediately took up
the works. Apart from the air strip being highly technical job,
another hurdle was the sub base water levels which were
extremely high due to floods. In addition to the technical
difficulties, the nature was also against us with temperature
soaring as high as 52 degree centigrade. The bitumen was being
laid at 160 degree centigrade, further raising the ambient
temperature. HSE was our first priority and our Moto was that
every person should go home the way he came, due to adverse
working conditions. The project was completed within given time
period while maintaining highest standards of HSE.

floors have been lavishly carpeted with malay-

healthy and positive working
environment for all its employees and
those under its care.
We aim to eliminate all class-one
accidents (an accident that results in
fatality or permanently alters a
person’s life) and to minimise, and
ultimately eliminate, all lost-time
accidents on our sites.
Safety management committees
undertake monthly safety audits of
every project, to ensure their
compliance with the safety policy and
international certification
OHSAS18001:2007 for the AMCORP’s
occupational health and safety system.
We are aware of the impact that our work can have
on the environment, and as such, environmental
management forms an important element of our
project management and reporting systems.
We adhere to an environmental policy that ensures it
complies with all relevant environmental laws and
regulations, takes all practicable steps to prevent
pollution in our activities, and conserves resources
through the efficient use of energy and materials. We
are certified to ISO14001:2004.
We have a team of competent and dedicated HSE
Staff, who ensure day in and day out that all
works are performed in a safe manner
eliminating all risks by performing risk
assessment of any job at hand. In last six
years we have done 7.5 Million Man Hours
without and LTI or reportable environmental damage.
We also have a team 4 ISO 18001 lead auditors, 3
14001 lead auditors and other 4 HSE staff holding

“Our strong determination towards developing and implementing Accident Prevention Program and management leadership do make a difference!”
At AMCORP, we believe that the
prevention of accidents is both our
moral obligation and good business.
Our safety efforts are based on our
belief that every working person is
entitled to a safe and healthy place to
work. The responsibility for the health
and safety of our employees goes far
beyond simple compliance with the
federal and state regulatory require-
ments. We recognize that the protec-
tion of our employees, property, the
public and the environment are essen-
tial to the efficient and successful
completion of every construction
project we undertake. Safety is more
than a priority at our company, here
safety is a value.
The Accident Prevention Program and
Policies that include formal safety
training, inspections, audits and a
formalized system of reporting is
continuously upgraded through reviews
and joint meetings with all the
concerned staff. We recognize that
accident prevention is a line manage-
ment responsibil-
ity. That responsi-
bility is shared at
every level of our
organization, from the
partners all the way through
to our craft work force. We
educate our Managers, supervi-
sors and employees to identify and
correct unsafe conditions and more
importantly unsafe work practices.
Our management administers our accident
prevention at project level, with the support of
full time HSE manager reporting directly to the
head office. We believe know that our accident
prevention efforts must have the same value as
quality, morale, cost, schedule, and production.
Safety is not something we do in addition to the
work; we are making it the way we do our work. We
recognize that accidents should be unusual events
and that most of them are preventable. Our goal
continues to be ZERO ACCIDENTS and achieving IIF
which is providing incident injury free work environ-
ment.

Structures with infill walls are very common in different parts of the world. Masonry walls play an impor-tant role to resist the lateral loads due to high stiffness and strength in the reinforced concrete frame buildings. It can be beneficial or detrimental for the structures and need to evaluate for each structure separately. However, in most cases, the contribution of stiff-ness and strength due to presence of infill panels is not incorporated in the design process. The construction practices used in different parts of the word are different with respect to the strength, material and shape of the masonry infill panel. No work has been done before on the topic for Pakistan region so we need to develop a model with construction practices used in Pakistan to facilitate the structure design engineers to analyses such kind of structures with less time and effort. Main objective of this research project is to develop the parameters for masonry infill in RC frames subjected to lateral loading that can be used in analysis of structures for Pakistan. For that purpose, we consider an equiva-lent analytical strut model technique with and without (bare) masonry infill RC frame and compare it with the experimental results obtained in the laboratory. Experiments will be performed on mortar cubes, masonry units, masonry prism and masonry
walls in compression and shear to find the required mechanical properties of in-fill which will be used in the analytical modeling by SeismoStruct. Finally in-filled RC frame subjected to monotonic lateral loading will be tested and the results will be com-pared with the analytical modeling.
